Re: Car not starting
Yes, a bit of topic drift but, as it has drifted a bit, I must add that I've found the handle invaluable on the occasions I have been caught in the middle of B-F-N with a flat battery. Aso useful for turning the engine to check valve clearances. I've even heard the story of someone using the handle...

Re: Car not starting
Alice, Do you have any means of checking the revs - should be about 900-1000 at tick-over, otherwise known as Idle Speed (this would be a special meter)? It could be that the 2 adjustment screws, on the side of the carburettor, need adjusting. One does the throttle stop (for Idle Speed) and the othe...

Re: Car not starting
Hello Alice,
How old is the petrol in the tank?
Two of mine (I try to start them every so often) needed to have the choke out a bit longer than usual (just a couple of clicks) as the petrol in those tanks has been there a few months.
George.

Re: Car not starting
Now you tell us
Well done for persevering and all done without Easy Start (my 1950 Series MM started without this chemical about 3 days ago, but the Traveller was cranking over for too long yesterday, so had to have a squirt).
All the best, George.

Alice, in the meantime, get the battery on a Trickle Charger for a day - do you have such a device?

Re: Car not starting
If nothing was changed or tinkered with in the last couple of weeks then it is, most probably, down to damp and condensation given the very wet weather the country has been experiencing. One course of action (after trying the Easy Start test) is to remove the distributor cap and wipe it out with a d...

Re: Car not starting
Try the Easy Start route - if it fires up then it isn't the electrics. No point in speculating - try something!

Re: Traveller wheels (sigh) ...
Just rcvd set of 5 new 14 inch wheels from ESM. Unfortunately, they had the wrong lug-to-lug pitch (4.5 inches) for my Traveller. From the ad, I expected 4.5 inch width, but 4 inch lug pitch. Any advice on getting some wheels that will actually fit??? Thanks - Any chance of a photo of one of your n...

I've been outside and measured my spare wheel rims - Series MM has a PDC of 4.5" Series MM 4 and a half inch PDC.jpg Series II face-lift Traveller wheels are 4.0" PDC Series II 4 inch PDC.jpg And, finally, Minor 1000 wheels have a PDC of 4.0" Minor 1000 4 inch PDC.jpg Apart from the P...

Re: Recent acquisition
Richard, I notice, with the rad out, that your engine isn't fitted with a water pump (or heater - not needed, I suppose, in Australia), but it is the slightly later engine block with a blanking plate so a pump can be fitted if required. I also notice that the bulkhead has been cut to allow heater ho...

Me neither, but if you google Minor lowlight there are a few images showing the same setup on other cars. Phil P My June 1950 low-light is like that and the recess is handy for placing things into whilst working in the engine bay 8) IMG_20190305_120614.jpg The battery has since been replaced with a...

Re: Car not starting
I must elaborate on my use of Easy Start. All my moggies are stored outside in all weathers. All of them have solar trickle chargers attached. All but the oldest car (still being worked on) have electronic ignition. The oldest car, the low-light, only recently had its charging circuit restored to wo...

Re: Car not starting
Hello Alice, it could be anything, but a quick way to narrow things down is to get a spray can of Bradex Easy Start (available from good Motor Factors). Do what you normally do, prior to turning the key. Put the key on the first position, so the ignition circuit is "live". Lift the bonnet ...

Spotted this afternoon, a working Pick-Up, non-standard colours and alloy wheels, heading East on the A30 between Bagshot and Sunningdale.

OK, I've got the pictures of the front hub. Re: Series MM wheels and brake adjuster holes
Hello Mick, That looks like a Series MM front wheel back plate with the original brake cylinders. In the UK ESM has only recently managed to get some newly made stock - they are Aluminium Alloy. I will photograph a spare front wheel hub, I have, to show you what the front hubs used to look like (you...
