67 Car - Gold 80mph speedo conversion
Hi all, I have bought an early gold faced (centre of dash) speedo, as I think it will look better in my minor... Besides the slight issue of accuracy with regards to speed (it seems an improvement on the original, maybe as I'm running smaller wheels...?) I can't get the fuel gauge to work. I know th...

Re: Midget 1275, Ford Type 9 5 speed, concentric clutch slave
Thanks for all the info, guys! Really useful. So the main things I need to figure out now: 1.How thick the boss/spacer needs to be between the hydraulic release bearing and the gearbox face for it to engage the clutch perfectly 2. How to modify my clutch pedal mechanism to actuate a hydraulic clutch...

Re: Midget 1275, Ford Type 9 5 speed, concentric clutch slave
Good to know! I see your clutch master cylinder is mounted through the original gearbox cross member, whilst a lot of the 5 speed conversion kits come with a replacement crossmember. Was it easy to retain the original when fitting a t9? And I may sound stupid, but...am I correct in thinking that hav...

Re: Midget 1275, Ford Type 9 5 speed, concentric clutch slave
Thanks guys, I'll give them a call and have a chat. Will try to do it as cheaply as possible - will keep my eye out for bits online between now and summer. I've heard the concentric is best so I'll just go with that. Currently running the standard 4:22 diff bmcosse and while it's much cheaper I'm no...

Midget 1275, Ford Type 9 5 speed, concentric clutch slave
Hi all, I've bought a midget 1275 to go in my moggy 1000 (1098). I do a lot of motorway miles so I'm going ford 5 speed, but want to get it in and done at some point this summer, with as little stress as possible! So i'm asking people wo have done this conversion, what is the best combination of par...

Re: Just bought this 1400 a series! Now what to do...?
Ok then, well thank you for shredding some light on an area of the car that I'm relatively new to! I'll inspect my engine when I get it, and figure out what the best way to go is. Is 80bhp more realistic for the setup I suggested above?
In the meantime...I'll start a piggy bank... :p

Re: Just bought this 1400 a series! Now what to do...?
OK then, so now you guys have informed me that I don't have enough money to get 100BHP... :P If I leave as is with the marina crank, have it balanced etc (perhaps not dampened due to cost), 286 cam, decent (not marina) rods, HIFF44 with the right needle and K&N cone filter, Stage 2 janspeed or s...

Re: Just bought this 1400 a series! Now what to do...?
Thanks again, 1) I'll probably go for a 12g940 head with the 1275 rocker assembly, this is a bolt on job, right? Obviously this will have some work done before it goes on. 2)Are midget/mini/marina rods all the same length? I guess it'll have decent ones if it was built by a guy that knows what he's ...

Re: Quickest way to drop front suspension on T bar splines?
I also have a clonk on the front suspension when i break hard-ish. haven't located it yet but haven't renewed the top (perhaps bottom as well) trunnions before, could either be the culprit? when i rock the steering wheel just enough to turn the road wheels a tad (when stationary) i also get a slight...

Quickest way to drop front suspension on T bar splines?
Last year I renewed the eyebolt bushes and pins (worn through-metal to metal) and I remember it being a pig of a job (first-timer...). At the time I attempted to remove the eyebolt itself from the chassis, but couldn't get it to move AT ALL...any suggestions for getting them out? - i'll need to spac...

Ignition timing with unleaded fuel
Just about to do the timing with a gun to the specification in the manual - says 4 degrees BTDC at idol. But I've heard people say that with unleaded you need to advance or retard the timing depending on the engine. So does this apply to a 1098cc a series?
Thanks, J
Thanks, J

Re: is my 1098 over-carbed???
Great! I'm not sure as one Nevern had the 44 apart but I believe the previous owner installed it straight from an early er standard 1275 metro if that's at all helpful? Will do! Is that slightly more viscous than than the usual oil for the dash pot then?
Thanks, J

Re: is my 1098 over-carbed???
Thanks a lot! Was going to get a rebuild kit for the 44 but I'll just get a 38 for it instead with an AAA needle and report back
