How long do timing chains last?

I am rebuilding a 950 engine that has done about 50 odd thousand miles. I am changing rings, big ends, mains, oil pump and pressure relief valve, water pump and exhaust valves. The timing chain and gear wheels do not look worn but is it worth renewing the chain and wheels? If so is the duplex worth ...

Yes, I will try! The engine is looking good with the fresh green paint. Just waiting for the rings, shells, etc to start re-assembling.

They say the camera doesn't lie. Unfortunately it is in a sad state. Stinks inside because it had rats nesting in it. They got in the hole behind the battery. And compression test was 60,60,0,60 so I am rebuilding the engine at the moment. And all the brakes are locked on. Still, I love a challenge!

Thanks for the welcome. My next question was going to be "what colour green is it?" but Dryad has answered it already!

1962 2 door, hasn't moved for 25 years.

It was my brother's car when he died nearly 30 years ago. My sister ran it for 3 or 4 years then put it away in a carport.
It will be a labour of love. I am doing the work and my sister is paying for the parts. Wish me luck![frame]Image[/frame]

Re: valves etc

I am doing the same myself. Couldn't get on with the stick so laid the head on it's side and put the stem of the valve in a cordless drill on slow speed, alternating direction on the drill every time I add a bit of paste. One bonus is the paste doesn't run down the stem into the guides. To test, cle...
