Gearbox only removal.

Although I am well practiced at removing and replacing engine and gearbox together, and engine only operations, I have just this day suffered gearbox failure on DiD run. Hence I only need to change box, so wondering if (as I have never done this) if it quicker to follow the manuals instructions of c...

Re: cylinder head casting repair?

I do have the sandwich plate with heater take off with this head, as pictured. Have been reading on other forums which tells me that using this set up on a non Maestro application can cause flow problems due to air locks? Opinions are split as to whether it is advisable to use it or not. Any thought...

Re: cylinder head casting repair?

Panic over! To my huge embarrassment, I found out by myself that I had fitted a 1098 gasket which over lapped the 1275 (standard) bores! I my (limited) defence, the set was marked 1275 on the packet. I have informed machine shop, who had already tested the head and found nothing amiss. Lesson learne...

cylinder head casting repair?

After extensive rebuild of an A+engine, I started it and ran it on my DIY test bed, and after running for around 1/2 hour, it started belching clouds of thick blue smoke! In all other ways the thing ran perfectly, so I have stripped the whole lot down again, and can find nothing untoward in all the ...

Re: Clutch choice.

Sorry Phil,I should have said that I could swap the crank and rods back to Ital type if that type was preferable. However, it is the question of difference in operation of the two types that I was meaning. I am aware of mod to lengthen the clutch fork arm have a " Declan" linkage to incorp...

Clutch choice.

Sure that it has been done many times on here, but I have a choice to fit either type of clutch available to a rebuilt A+ engine and 1275 midget gearbox, and would like an opinion as to which is preferable please? I have both types of hardware (ESM conversion for Minor type, or 1275 midget flywheel)...

Re: Timing cover leak solution?

The gasket shown in the link above https://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Engine/Block/Gaskets/GUG705550GM.aspx?100108&ReturnUrl=/search/classic/timing%20cover%20gasket.aspx is the preferred type of gasket for my use. It has a slightly rubberised feel to it. Lightly covered in grease and ni...

Timing cover leak solution?

Found this on another site, and wondered if anyone has used it, as I have never seen one before? Bit pricey but seems to be the ultimate answer to a common recurring problem? https://www.dsnclassics.co.uk/retrosport-shop/engine-accessories/timing-cover-kit-midget-sprite-morris-1000-retrosport-front-...

Re: Young enthusiast Bangers and Cash

Another Morris club is organising a JOGLE run, which has to be postponed until next year, due to the current situation.
I think that it is a excellent idea, and will be taking part. I did think that the Minor club would have had one, as the "Minors on tour" is quite popular?

Re: Traveller Cab pick up chasis

Location of the rear of the cab is the problem, but yes I guess it would be possible to knock up a "custom" flat bed rear, but not sure about extending the rear overhang? You may run into problems with registration/legality problems later? I went into some detail when contemplating this, a...

Re: Traveller Cab pick up chasis

The only way to fit the longer doors/cab section to an LCV is to lengthen the LCV chassis by 7" (IIRC), in the correct place. This has been done a number of times, and something that I looked very deeply into when restoring my Van. I bitterly regret not carrying this out at the time. "Unse...

Facet fuel pump?

I am fitting a crankcase breather to my A+ engine in the Minor,so have to find an alternative fuel pump. I am looking at a Facet pump as these have been recommended by others, but unsure as to which one to go for? Would appreciate suggestions from others who may have fitted these please. I note that...

Ducellier Distributor

Have found a Ducellier Dizzy in my box of old Distributors, and wondered if they are any good?
Apparently they were used in the days of industrial disputes when Lucas could not supply? I notice that spares are available still, so are they worth pursuing with, or not worth the bother?
