Re: USHM3 Cylinder head bolts
Can't be 100% certain but I think M10 std, not M10 fine. HT nuts were easy to find but not deep ones. They'd have metric head sizes rather than Whitworth so may be worth saving your old nuts.

Re: USHM3 Cylinder head bolts
Someone might have cut up some long M10 bolts to make those? Original heads had studs and deep nuts that left just a couple of threads exposed in each position. Not the end of the world to use them as they are, so long as they are spacered out enough. Other options are out there since a few modern c...

Re: MM gearbox query
On the Austin Seven (pre-war) there is a similar hole for lubricating the release bearing mechanism. Strangely, the Morris 8 gearbox doesn't have that hole in it. Since the hole abuts the sculpted cut-out for the steering rack it hay be a feature of the modification process to fit the Minor. If the ...

Similar technique, albeit using a couple of flat bits of steel sheet instead of a properly dimensioned template.

Re: Super Chargers
The problem was that after TC went bust there was no preventative maintenance done on them and no covers put over the engines. Same happens with cars, I guess.

Got it. Ta.
Have been away chopping the legs out from under 3 x Airbus A330s at Manchester. Great fun!
Might be getting a teaching job in Bolton soon. Had to look it up on a map.

Re: 1948 MM arrived
Nice! Still got the rubber bits on the battery stay, the wooden battery rails and still has wire-wrap hose clips. Those bits aren't common over here. The coil and battery clamps would be on my list of things to look out for. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Any chance of a photo of the top and bottom ...

Re: repairing doors.
I bought some panels but the edges were poorly defined, necessitating some hefty whacking with hammers. In the end I made my own for the second side.

Re: RADIATOR MUFFLER
This shows the factory optional radiator blind for later cars. This has a pull cable with a lock so you can adjust how high the blind gets pulled up, against a spring. Rolls back into the little holder at the bottom of the front edge of the radiator.

Re: Quarterlight studs
They don't have to be amazingly tight and the bolt head can be shaved down so it wedges itself in the gap.

Thin down the heads of a couple of bolts (Dremel or file) and Araldite them in? No other options, really, unless you can Tig weld.

Re: Traveller wheels (sigh) ...
Just to confuse the issue, J4 and Cambridge wheels LOOK the same as Morris 1000 wheels, have 4.5 or 4 inch width but have 4.5 PCD. They take Minor 1000 hubcaps, too, instead of Series MM ones. Central holes for 'locating' are bigger by about 5mm on the MM. Morris 1000 wide wheel on the Morris 1000 r...
