Re: Which wheels

Other common options are Rostyles and Minilites style.

Otherwise have a search for 4x 4"/101.6mm PCD (NOT 100mm).

Re: Marina Pedal Box

I vaguely recall somebody telling me I should reinforce the mounting area if I wanted to fit the Marina pedal box as the firewall might flex. I toyed with the idea years ago but chickened out and decided to get an remote fluid reservior that is easier to monitor. Could even put a sensor on it! https...

Re: Reece Fish Carburettor Tuning

Not the Fish carb intended for the Minor but a similar downdraft model for another car.

I understand most of what is going on here except this pipe that goes from the inlet to the 'swept' side of the float chamber, any clues?

Re: Any Volvo 240 owners here?

I had a late 145 which had the same engine and interior, pretty much, just on a Stromberg carb. The famously bulletproof engine blew up on the new owner a month after I sold it to him. The 240s went through a trendy phase and still haven't come down in price I don't think - there is a "s...

Re: Playing with CFD (Aero)

We have an attachment limit? Pressure clouds. pressure-cloud-side.png pressure-cloud-rear.png It seems to me, a complete novice, that as we might expect the angle of the bonnet nose, the front and rear windscreens and the rain gutters are quite bad offenders when it comes to pushing air out of the w...

Playing with CFD (Aero)

CFD being computational fluid dynamics. Most of this is beyond me and I'm using free or nearly-free tools but given I have been playing with a 3D model of a Minor I may one day turn mine into - a four door lowlight conversion - I thought I'd try to run it through a simulation. Some fun images at 60m...

Re: Improving the Anti-Roll Bar

That's great phil, I've also sourced some Marina torsion bars (normal car thickness) and will be following your example for fabricating brackets for those.

I admit I can't quite visualise how the sliding rose joints work with the ARB, do you have any photos of it assembled?

Re: Improving the Anti-Roll Bar

Thread resurrection! I'm reassembling my car again (don't ask about how bored/silly I got in lockdowns) and have found myself a Marina/Ital rear ARB. I wonder if clever folk might have suggestions on the best method of mounting the rear ARB. I understand I'll be welding brackets onto the axle, but w...

Re: Maximum wear before first rebore.

Standard bore is 2.542"/64.56mm so that can be measured. From memory I think more than 0.006" is problem territory for piston to bore clearance. And if the bores are oval of course.

Were you getting signs of blow-by?

Re: Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions

Hello! It reads like it's running lean to me. This could be due to your mixture adjustment, a vacuum leak, dirt in the float bowl or jet, or perhaps the fuel pump not keeping up (if not "electronic" it has points inside that can be cleaned). A bent jet/needle would also effect the fuel met...

I've had real trouble with some shoes, both when I had standard brakes and now with both front and rear Wolseley 1500 drums.

A quality friction material can make a big difference!

Re: First Minor. Daily drive - winter advice request

I have a correct radiator muff, BMC branded I think, with the two flaps that can be poppered back in the garage somewhere if you want it!

My taste for tuned engines (and oil/water heat exchanger) these days means I have little trouble getting mine up to temperature.

Re: First Minor. Daily drive - winter advice request

I would strongly advise you to redo/add the cavity wax and get some extra underseal on there to save you trouble later. Of course there are loads of brands, I found Bilt Hamber UB (under-body) spray exceptionally easy to apply, as well as their cavity wax (S-50). One can of each should do a Minor ea...

Re: speedo reads 40mph when only doing 30mph

A difference as large as that described would make me think the issue lies with the speedo - even going from a 4.22 to 3.7 differential wouldn't put you that far out I don't think.

Re: Reece Fish Carburettor Tuning

Aye Phil, I've got a nice period alloy manifold ("Superflow") for a single larger carb as it's the 1.5" Fish and the pattern doesn't match.

Initial setup I can likely manage, but I'll probably be at least a little off!
