Re: Purolator - how tight?
I did mean the collar round the bolt at the bottom. Currently it's now about 1 drip every 30 minutes, as I've checked twice now within an hour. I do wonder if it would be more excessive if the enging were running, but I'm out of fuel (shame really as that was ethanol free fuel). I realise I can turn...

Re: Purolator - how tight?
If I take it off again that will make it the fourth time of doing so :D I used the thicker seal, the one phillthehill mentioned was on his spare Purolator head in the MM oil thread since it seems like being the best fit. I've also been out again to confirm how much it was losing and I'd say 1/2 a te...

Re: Purolator - how tight?
Just to clarify, the parts listed were replacement parts for the Purolator I have, I didn't merge the spin-on top head with the lower Purolator parts :) It was less a torque setting (since my torque wrench has given up the ghost anyway) and more a case of how tight is tight - or how secure is secure...

Purolator - how tight?
Now that I'm physically able to work on my car again (last time was early 2023) I decided to have a go getting the oil filter sorted. As a reminder, I'm taking my car back to stock so have been re-fitting an original Purolator filter housing in place of the screw-on conversion. Since it had been so ...

Re: Sir Jackie might be impressed!!
I have a book on driving, written by the great Sir Jackie Stewart, in which he outlines an exercise whereby people have to retain a tennis ball, in a bowl on the bonnet, whilst driving (I seem to recall in a figure of eight). He also did a video on advanced driving, I haven't watched my copy as our...

Re: MM oil filter
So, did the Purolator heads use different seals or of the thick and thin seals included with filters, is one for Tecalemit and the other Purolator (and which is for which?).

Re: Esm rear window rubber
I remember giving up and paying a garage to fit it  They then fitted it inside-out and said we could pay again if we wanted it the right way. :-( Ended up being re-fitted correctly by a Minor specialist as part of other restoration work (they couldn't believe anyone could put the interior side...

Re: we have a problem
The light from the sun isn't from 'now', it left the Sun 8 minutes ago and has travelled 93 million miles.... Only if you can afford first class. I get mine delivered second class, so it takes 16 minutes but it works out cheaper in the long run :P :D like go up the garage and work on your Minor. :w...

To be fair, a lot of your post count is from the 'Word Association' thread here in Off Topic.Myrtles Man wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 2:08 pm An interesting observation, especially so when you consider my 1072 total posts against your own 529.
(of course, you both have more posts since 2018 than I have since 2004)

Re: we have a problem
Of course they went to the moon - how else could they have filmed The Clangers? There used to be a website that used nothing but images from The Clangers to prove the moon landings were fake. I see that the latest moon landing observed the remains of a low light Minor at the bottom of one crater an...

Re: Pink antifreeze
It depends where you live but in my area the water is extremely hard and this scales up kettles... And by that we mean if you cut the outer metal off the kettle, you'll find a whole new kettle shaped limescale block... (though maybe the acidity of anti-freeze would counteract the limescale, ...

Re: Halogen bulbs
This thread had a bit of a weird forum bug going on yesterday (or at least for me), after my initial post yesterday the next reply showing was olonas' post followed by geoberni's (which is why I responded to that one). Today there are new replies that didn't exist yesterday sandwiched between them, ...

Re: Halogen bulbs
It's increasing common to see garbage that is relevant to 'Classics' that are post 1980s being thought of as applying to everything back to 1910!!! I checked again, it was August 2022 that the site I'd found was last updated, so basically a blanket cover statement not taking into account exc...

Re: Halogen bulbs
Why not LED bulbs. These are a game changer on prewar minors with 6v systems. It appears to still be the case that normal bulbs can be replaced with LED bulbs, but they're not road legal if they're being used for exterior lighting, this does however presumably mean an end to cracked wingaard interi...

I may be wrong, but I thought a TIVO box was able to do something like that.

Re: Dual Personality Register
Interesting register. I guess my car counts, a duotone late '63 model that came with the 1098 engine and the modern Smiths heater, this meant it had a parcel shelf for the modern heater, but it was beige like the one the 948 duotones (with the old style of heater) had. Sadly a well known restorer bi...

Self Service Garage (BBC Archive video).
This popped up on the BBC site, thought it was interesting since I knew the USA had rentable garage work areas, but I never knew the UK had anything similar:

Re: Green carpet
If your current carpet is hessian backed it's likely to be Karvel, which means the closest match you'll find in terms of appearance would be from Newton Commercial but be aware that it's about 1/3 the height of the original in terms of pile depth. I believe later cars had a rubber backed more modern...

Re: Large patch of rust on rear bumper
You could try chrome effect spray paint on the area, maybe with some lacquer on top to add to the gloss (since some chrome effect isn't all that great I gather). Also, if there's rust on the blade on the outside, it's quite possible there's rust eating away your bumper valance on the inside - so you...
