Re: Talk Talk
I did, both phone and Broadband. I stuck it for three months and then moved everything back to BT. Over the years I've had a few very serious professional run-ins with BT, but Talk Talk are in a completely different league. If you do go with them and then switch back, make sure that you cancel the D...

Misfiring.
Symptoms: The car starts perfectly. Runs well for about 12 miles, then starts misfiring. Doesn't stop, just misses when under load. Idles OK. It's now been fixed, but just for fun, what would the other experts think was the cause? I'll post the answer once we've had a few suggestions.

Re: Can anybody identify this screw?
At the non-pointed end, has it sheared off? If yes, then there could be a head missing, if no, then it's a stud. If it is sheared, is the break as rusty as the rest? If yes then it's been there a long time. Is the apparent rim to the left of the nut genuinely an un-threaded collar? If yes, then it a...

Re: slow starts and over runs.....
There's nothing stupid about not knowing something, we all had to learn at sometime, and it's by asking questions that you become knowledgeable. The ignition is advanced by adjusting the distributor. For small adjustments, there is a knurled wheel at the opposite side to the vacuum unit. The case ha...

Re: No l/h tail light
You will need to look at the connectors on both sides of the boot - the harness comes up through the floor in front of the spare wheel (behind it when viewed from the rear), runs along the right hand side of the boot floor and then has connectors to feed the right hand light assembly, but also to li...

Re: wheelbox or wiper motor?
The gear wheel in your "new" wiper motor is the wrong size. You can remove the gear wheel from the old motor and place it in the new one: Remove motor from car *I know the three small mounting bolts are a pain, but there's no other way). You will already have removed the cover in order to ...
Re: mpg
screws around the throttle linkage are screwed out to their maximum One affects the idle speed, the other allows the use of the choke to increase the idle speed. Neither affect the mixture. As they are both right out, they won't be causing a fast idle (another cause of increased fuel consumption if...

Re: slow starts and over runs.....
Another thought, whilst we all like to fix things, if you used a "garage" to supply and fit a new carb, then go back and tell them to sort it out. Butterfly bolts don't come off if they've been fitted properly!

Re: slow starts and over runs.....
Look for air leaks - a weak mixture can cause running on.
Re: mpg
You can also check the petrol pipes and pump for leaks (and even the tank!) and also check the float level - if it's set too high then there will be a loss of fuel from the carb. General tuning is important, so check valve gaps, and ignition points and timing.

Too many regulations regarding spraying these days. Have a word with any of the usual Minor traders. Anyone with a workshop should be able to get the right paint. Your local car repairers may be able to help if you talk to the right person.

Re: Traveller rear doors
Not wishing to doubt you, but 1.5 inches is one hell of a gap :o It's more usual for the hinges to drop and then get a slight overlap which makes it difficult to shut. Each of the four hinges is unique, ie top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right, so if they've been off and put back on, then t...

The best carb for a standard road use Minor is the SU that the factory fitted.

Re: running on three!!! help.
Quickest check is to put a compression tester on. My guess is that the head gasket has blown between cylinders 3 and 4. If you don't have access to a tester, then remove all spark plugs and press your thumb over each plug hole in turn, whilst cranking the engine by hand. You should feel a lot of pre...

Where's the wood? The whole thing currently looks as though someone squashed it and shunted it. I'm sure that it will appeal to someone, but (and I am sorry to have to say this, particularly as I can't draw for toffee, and therefore can't offer anything better) to me it is quite repulsive. I would e...

Re: Oil Leak Somewhere?
Oil dripping from the front of the rocker cover gets blown down the side of the head under the spark plugs due to the air coming from the fan. Use Jizer to clean away all traces of oil, wash and dry the whole are, then go for a short run. A light dusting with talcum powder will show if the oil ic co...
