Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

Edd, you are an inspiration to us all!

To get it ready in time for the wedding was awesome work and given the circumstances and conditions I really take my hat off to you. Best of luck with the ongoing work and keep us all posted.

Re: The dying traveller that refuses to die.

Well they usually need new wood and a new interior kit! Engines are plentiful and readily available in anything from "fully reconditioned" to "ready-to-rebuild" condition. The question is simply whether or not you are prepared to do a restoration? Not saying it is quick, cheap or...

Freezing the flywheel helps, but not significantly. you get tens of degrees, compared with hundreds of degrees with the torch!

Re: 'to complete or not to complete' restoration

It is a very good question! Certainly, unfinished and without MOT no-one would want to pay so much. The question is whether it is complete and running? If so and the only issue is the wood then most definitely, in my view, you would NOT recoup your cost if you were to replace the wood. The lower the...

Re: CNC machined dashboards, Ill make them if there is interest

You have done a great job there and I admire your work. But, I am not surprised by the above comments, as I think you will find this kind of accessory is not what many owners are after. For me personally, I don't think that the dashboard needs any cosmetic improvement (or alteration) and the origina...

Re: Seat Belts

Good spot with the VW belts!

You can also have period style webbing and fittings made up specifically for your Minor by:

http://www.quickfitsbs.com/classic_cars_seatbelts.php

Not cheap, but they will also do installation an almost any car, even where mounting points were not originally fitted.

Re: New road wheels from ESM

I bought the wider wheels from ESM. It should be noted they are sold as "second" quality. I had to shot blast and repaint them as the supplied finish would not have lasted. Same problem as described above; poor paint adhesion and surface rust under paint. If I wanted standard size wheels I...

Thank you for that! You have managed to find yourself a really good starting point, judging from the pictures. You can indeed learn as you go as most of us self taught guys did. A lot of the help and advice you will need can be found here and also on other websites like http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/...

Re: Splitscreen Traveller

They are original Series II wheels and it is fine to use tubeless tyres. In fact your options are pretty limited if you want tubed tyres now. The 155 is absolutely fine and very commonly used, although 145 is closer to original. Be aware that the profile (resulting in outside diameter) of the tyre w...

Great history, great project!

It sounds like it might need some serious structural work doing though... But well worth the effort in this case!
