Re: Help
Hello Ellie, I'm at Belper, just up the road from you. I'm far from being an expert but I've been running old cars as my main transport for donkeys years. Happy to meet you and Martha if you want. Don't expect a genius but I can sort simple things and know some good local garages that don't rip you o...

Funny this EU thing. Supposed to be about standardising things across Europe but obviously every country continues to do it's own thing regardless.

Re: Box section rust. On a scale 1 to 10 .....
I think Charlie was a giant in the Morris Minor world and made a great contribution to this hobby. Some of his ideas on bringing the car back into production were a bit radical but never boring. Regarding the quality of his restorations, he has done 3 for me and they have been hard to fault ( but ev...

Re: 1960 Morris Minor Traveller - advice needed!
It's a tricky one this. If you wanted to keep the car everyone would think 'what a good place to start from '. I guess you have to decide whether to sell it as it is or invest a bit in the hope of getting a better price. I know that my trav was bought by Charles Wares in 2009 ( no mot, needed weldin...

Re: Mot
Seems that a lot of silly little glitches like this are cropping up at MOT's these days. The regulations are a 'one size fits all' and it can put the tester in an awkward position. Perhaps older cars should be tested under a different regime, as I believe they are in some European countries.

Re: Which Battery?
I think that an 038 battery is probably 'correct ',but folk seem to use all sort of things without any problem. Since you are positive earth and want it to look original its perhaps more important to get one with the terminals correctly orientated.

Those dates are before the car went in for its restoration. How odd.

Re: 1960 Morris Minor Traveller - advice needed!
I'm afraid that's a 'how long is a piece of string ' question. So many things will affect the value. Did the garage give an estimate for the welding? How good is the wood? Etc. The car looks quite good in the pictures though. You might be better to get the welding done, get the MOT and then advertise...

Insurance seems pretty reasonable this side of the pond. Especially if you're an old f..t with a clean license!

Re: Buying a morris without looking it over.
I got my first Minor unseen on Freecycle. The owner had moved house, lost his garage etc. It had stood in a car park for ages, covered in bird poo etc. looked awful but turned out to be dead solid underneath. I was very lucky, a free car ( although I bought them a meal out) and got a good 'un. Of cour...

Really interesting that, I've never seen one before. If it was my car I think I'd retain it... Even if it needs disconnecting. Part of the car's history.
