Re: Soda blasting or acid dipping

I've seen somewhere where they dump a load of dry ice on the floor to make the underside underseal cold & brittle so it chips off much more easily

Re: Powdery rear view mirror

I had a powdery mirror that had degraded to the exn that the balljoint failed. From memory I replaced with something from an early mini which was more or less the same thing but cheaper

Re: Bojo the Cloan

One interesting thing that's come out of this is the old 'we have an unwritten constitution' chestnut. If it's not written it doesn't exist just like my unwritten homework or referring to an unwritten dictionary. This puts power with the small number of people who get to interpret this invisible tom...

Re: Metal thickness

Sheet steel....First a warning , avoid galvanized steel - it gives off poisonous fumes....so even if it's offered free decline. Does this go for zintec too? I've been using this but wire wheeling the edges to be welded down to bare steel first. The zinc comes off easily so I suspect a different pro...

Re: Not what they used to be!

Back in the '80s I spent so long getting the brakes off an Ital or Marina for my Minor that the place closed without me realising. A guard dog on a chain stared at me angrily but silently until I dropped my pile of bits and it went mental. Thankfully the owners were still around counting their money...

I really miss Spitting Image. It always revealed the absurdity of politics & politicians better than the serious commentators.

Re: Save a Moggy? Can a newcomer do it

I'm in a similar position my minor requires some bodywork and having welded a few bits of steel together in the past and managed to make a wood burner I thought I would try it myself. I think the main thing with welding at home is to obtain a good deal on argon. I'm still looking for a decent suppl...

Re: Fitting seat belts in a factory built 1960 convertible

If roll-over hoops are still available, they could offer a better mounting point for the upper mounting of a an inertia reel seatbelt

At least you’re optimistic about the planet surviving, when you mention a fifty year projection ! Well it is biologically possible that I could still be around in 50 years and my hope is that I can live out my days before things go too far down the pan  . Ultimately I suspect Mother Nature wi...

Re: Bojo the Cloan

A smart German friend of mine involved in German politics & looking from outside saw a different angle to this and asked the question, "So what happens after you stay or leave?" "What do you mean?" "Well whether you stay or leave approximately half of the country will fe...

Re: Steel or fibreglass

Well with fibreglass you can always thicken them up with more fibreglass on the inside. Many years' ago I bought fibreglass wings and the fronts were really really thin so did just that. Before fitting them I was talking to someone who made fibreglass AC Cobra replicas and he advised using something...

So two points already raised: If it's a keeper have whatever colour you want. If you have an eye on selling one day, another colour might help the sale. Another point, if you are painting because it needs a respray, painting the same colour can be cheaper because you might not have to paint the insi...

Re: PCD? Ofset? what do they really mean?

Just to add another parameter to consider, the centre bore. That's the diameter hole in the middle of the wheel through which the front hub sticks. Obviously if the centre bore is too small it won't fit on but if it's too big the wheel won't be held properly and the wheel studs will be taking all of...

As long as it's not the interior stuff. The interior stuff opens up the grain of the wood giving a great effect but the opposite of waterproof.
