Re: Wiring

Indicators and brake lights are earthed through the lamp clusters to body. The horn has a constant supply and earths via the horn push on the steering column, so I don;t think that it can be a common earth.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start

When fitting a rebuilt engine and filling with oil (including pre-filling the filter), then I always turn the engine by hand to start the oil circulating and will then often use the starter for a second or two without ignition to check that the oil pressure does come up before finally starting the e...

We have somewhat strayed from the topic (how unusual :-? ) but when editing a profile this message is displayed: "Please note that this information may be viewable to other members.", so it really should not come as a surprise. That said, I can understand the concerns about revealing your ...

Re: Clutch noise - Any ideas please?

Always difficult to diagnose a noise until hearing it, but I wonder whether the adjustment of the clutch is now causing an overthrow so that the pedal is fully depressed, the fork is catching on the clutch cover. I have not had that problem with a Sierra box, but there used to be a Toyota conversion...

This is an interesting discussion because the reported problem is that you cannot post. However, you clearly can post as you have started a new topic entitled "Admin" and posted to it with your original request and the screenshot. We have had a discussion about this via PM, buit in case it...

Re: Boot Lid not fitting

What year is the car? There have been a few changes over the years, but mainly cosmetic or with the stay. The usual reason for a poor fit is poor alignment of panels during a previous restoration. There should be a lip right round the opening on the body. Is yours present? They sometimes rust away, ...

Re: Front chassis legs

Sorry, no pictures, but do one at a time and use the other to ensure that the new one is parallel. Measure all available datum points to ensure that the new leg is clamped in the correct position before you start to weld.

Aaaaagh!!!
Interestingly, when I took one of the Travellers for an MOT, the tester said that the brakes were better than on many modern cars he checks :D

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start

Your 10:18 reply came in whilst I was typing the above. Champion are good. Original Lucas components are good, but modern ones are less so. I would replace with good items from The Distributor Doctor, but still check the battery and look for sparks as above. What reference number is printed on the s...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start

I think that it's the high heels causing the problem. The length of heel is logarithmically inversely proportional to the strength of the spark, well known fact. More seriously, how old is the battery? A good battery should be able to crank the car multiple times without going flat, buit a poor batt...

Personally, I'd like to see the MMOC commit to maintaining this forum, as it is an invaluable source of information that has built up over more than a decade. I agree, unfortunately there are others who are obsessed with the numbers on facebook.... I am delighted to report that as a result of the a...

Re: Vedette Marine BMC Engine - What electronic ignition should I use

There will always be a debate between those in favour of points and those voting for electronic. Both have their own advantages. The usual advice offered is to consult the Distributor Doctor.

Re: No Fuel to fuel pump.

It could be that the pick-up tube in the tank has sheared off or become blocked, there might be an air leak at the tank to pipe joint or the pipe to pump joint. Disconnect the metal pipe from the pump and blow down it. Is there a bit of resistance and can you hear bubbling from the tank as the air e...

Re: Advice please, new owner, hiding contents of Traveller

You are not the first to ask this question, and you won't be the last. There is no standard solution, but wherever you find a number of Travellers parked together (cue collective noun thread) you will see a variety of solutions. Over the years I have seen (and used) variations on roller blinds, fabr...

Re: Clutch part

The Minor had a purely mechanical clutch linkage, so the slave cylinder is not a Minor part. Different cylinders can be used. Hopefully someone will recognise the part number and tell you what your one is from.

Re: Stainless exhaust

The problem is that there are so many different exhausts, and each has its own note. I use stainless on three Minors, each sounds slightly different, two make the classic "parp" sounds, one doesn't. None of them, to me, sound aggressive. They've been on the cars so long that I have no idea...
