Re: Rear Lights

Have a look on here, there's a few different style thay could be mounted on the bumper valence and look 'period'. http://fiftysixdelux.com/hotrod.htm Hmmm hand grenade shifters  I'm guessing they took the explosives out first...................... What a great idea for an anti theft device.......

Front fog/spot lamp brackets

Does anyone know if there are any purpose made brackets for fitting front spot/fog lights. I have a pair of bottom mounting Lucas Fograngers (although the fitting would be the same for the Lucas 576 type) and I cannot just bolt to the Bumper valence because it's GRP (fibreglass) and isn't strong eno...

I believe it's the same shape except for the gear lever position, unless you have a later remote shift, in which case it should fit straight in!

Re: got the rust off.. now how to make the damage vanish?

Yes you got it!

No problem for blending into the existing paint, just make sure that any polish is thoroughly removed and the area is lightly keyed with 1200 wet and dry. A blending or fade out spray may help as can a machine polisher!

Re: got the rust off.. now how to make the damage vanish?

Note that you may have a paint reaction with the Hammerite! I think they say it takes six weeks to cure? Better grinding off again and using an etch primer before priming, flatting etc.

Re: windscreen wipers - are they supposed to be ineffective?

"Rain X" is a water repellent that can be applied to the glass, windscreen and other windows. Available in Halfords and other auto accessory shops. You can also buy a "Rain X" additive for your washer fluid. Not everyone is convinced it seems ( ) but I have had great resul...

Re: Correct Radiator Cap

If you have the standard radiator, I would use the standard 4 lb cap.

Before moving to a higher pressure system I would consider an expansion tank (pressurised with an un-pressurised rad cap) or a coolant recovery tank (same idea but vice versa on the caps)

Re: Fuel Pump

I have just replaced a pump on a traveller that would stop without warning and then run normally again without any external influence (tapping). The poor chap had the AA out three times and each time the car was working perfectly again by the time they arrived and they could do or find nothing. I to...

I did exactly that, as Taupe describes for a customer after his "captive" nut "escaped". Probably the strongest bit on the car! and a nice straightforward and quick solution for anyone who can weld (properly!)

OK maybe I'm not the only one, but I thought it sounded pretty awful.

BUT, actually the result is not bad at all. I wondered what the point would be, but I have to say, seeing the picture, I totally get it!

Classic British cars, but then I probably can't afford these Italian or German machines! And if I could I'd probably buy an Aston Martin or another Jag..... ...

Re: Is it worth spraying original colour?

I think it has far more to do with the quality and finish of the paintwork than the colour!

All of the period colours look great when polished up!

That said, I love original cars, but it's your car so do it how you want, but do it well!
