Re: type 3 gearbox?
if all you are doing is 40 -50 then stick with a moggy box would be my advice ( for what it is worth ).. i doubt even a rebuilt moggy box would cost the same as a fitting kit for the type 9

Re: type 3 gearbox?
Can I ask why you are wanting to fit the type 3 gearbox? you will end up with a four speed box.. the advantage of the type 9 is that it is 5 speed box, the conversion will not be cheap but is worth it to get the fifth gear..( over to you Roy to rubbish even fitting the type 9 box )

Re: Skuttles and door cards
your door panels will be held in places by lots of push clips and should not curl, your scuttle panels will be held in place by the parcel shelf, until they get put in your car I would lay them flat . when fitting the door panels some fit a sheet of thin plastic to the door to prevent water getting ...

Re: Faulty fuel gauge.
obviously not something i would do but is it possible that the needle is "trapped" between the fuel gauge and the speedo, does tapping the speedo when everything turned off allow it to return to zero?

Re: Anyone one from down south going to the nationals? :)
Charlie - check your route if using the A34 My Daughter lives in Didcot. There are major roadworks on the A34 (drainage renewal) together with other roadworks. Lanes down to single file for about 4 months (30mph). Botley interchange, South Hinksey areas. Still v. slow even after rush hour. thanks f...

Re: Anyone one from down south going to the nationals? :)
i was thinking of leaving after rush hour.. yes that vague.. up the M3 to Bracknell then across country to Milton Keynes to avoid the roadworks on the M3 and the fun of the M25 then M1 etc.. but looking at the Map the A34 might be a better route for you and not adding that much to me.. we could meet...

Re: Thinking ahead....(ref front wheel fixings etc)
if i understand correctly the cross member is strong but unsightly. it should not stop you taking all the front suspension apart cleaning it up and re-bushing it all. the only problem that i can see is that when you put it all back together the ride hight might be slightly different ( new bushes etc...

Re: Master cylinder
Yes they can.. 2 options 1) if the job has been done in the past the bolts are often put in with the nut on the torsion bar side to "overcome" this issue. 2) it is possible (never done it myself) to bend the torsion bars out of the way.. there was a tool for sale on ebay a while back that ...

you asked for advice and the advice from people is.. it is not needed and the two respondents know there stuff and is in line with a response from JLH a few years back I recall if it is going to be completely different... how can any one tell you how to do it or they will have done it and your car w...

I notice you said it was hunting, i think that was in my question trying to get more of a description .. have you tried checking the piston drop when the problem occurs i.e. when the engine is warmed up.. the problem i had was that when everything was cold it worked fine in the garage and during th...

sorry forgive me if you have already been asked this in a previous thread.. but what is "reasonable revs" and what is the problem is it dying at tick over or running lumpy / hunting. i had a problem with a carb that worked fine until i cleaned it and the lite oil i had put in to overcome t...

Re: Fitting a temperature gauge
i have used tim gauges in the past and have been very happy with the price \ reliability however the temperature sender has needed a spacer, which i made up as one was not supplied, so perhaps not the best one to fit as a novice. if you are looking at a mounting panel as well I can recommend this gu...

once you have done it once then yes.. but "playing" with brakes for the first time it is a sensible question..and it is far better to get advice than do something and twist \ brake the pipes and find a small job becoming a lot larger.bmcecosse wrote:Mountain and molehill come too mind.....
