Re: Oil pump 3 or 5 lobes

Well.. bought a new pump thru a Dutch supplier who sells stuff from Moss. It looks much better than the Powertune. Cover missing

The small hole on top of the float chamber should have a cover, right?[frame]Image[/frame]
Can someone send me a picture, so I can try to make it?

Thanks

Re: Oil leakage

Also - watch out which way round the duplex chain is fitted. If it has a 'joining link' (which suggests a rather sub standard chain anyway...) then the clip must be fitted on the outside to minimise any risk of it catching. Edit = that rather looks like a joining link at 1 o'clock on the cam sprock...

Should it have brackets, like yours?[frame]Image[/frame]

Re: Oil leakage

Thanks Phil, I have a classic Mini garage nearby. Try with them first.

Ian, Yes, I used 20W50. I bought a cheap brand (don't remember). Now will continue with Castrol. Have 2 cans ready for first run-in and first oil change after that. :)

Re: Oil leakage

Fitting the front plate and the chain I noticed the countersunk screw is really close to the (duplex) chain. I cannot remember it was that way when i took it apart. [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1419888033_22272 [/frame]. It can turn freely, but if i push the chain to the plate it can t...

Making it bigger would show more clearly it is a lousy photoshop job. :)

Re: Temp Gauge and 948cc Engine

I bought a Smith temp gauge with sensor, according to the seller for a Mini. I expected the sensor would fit, but the thread is different. The sensor is from Lucas. Is it located somewhere else on the Mini? I assume making an adaptor will bring the sensor further away from the main water flow, so th...

Re: Temp Gauge and 948cc Engine

Seen several solutions here. For the 1098 engine, is this the right location for a temp sensor?

Re: Grease, oil, studs, gaskets

The better studs to use are the ones with either the 'P' or dimple on their top end. BTW someone mad a nice mixture: the large studs: 3 with a dimple, one without. :-? The small ones are all without. I assume I do not have to replace as long as I use the standard nuts and keep the torque within the...

Re: Grease, oil, studs, gaskets

Hi Phil, thanks for the data. Assembling the crankshaft and con rods, the manual advises to use plenty of oil on the bearings. Keeping the threaded holes clean is impossible :(. You mentioned the Minor engine data are related to 'dry' assembly. Should I correct (reduce) the torques of the bolts for ...

Re: Grease, oil, studs, gaskets

I have read different opinions about the grease on bolt or nuts and the right torque. With the high torques I guess there is no grease anymore on the surface that is in contact with the other part. And the frictional resistance of a 'clean' surface can vary a lot. Applying a torque in such a case is...

Grease, oil, studs, gaskets

Reassembling my engine again, any advise on:
- Grease of studs, bolts, nuts
- Paper gaskets for waterpump, thermostat housing
- O-ring, paper gaskets oil filter housing, oil pump
- Paper gasket, cork sealing for sump

Thanks
