by the look of them I'd say throw them out and buy some new or secondhand ones you will never clean those up to a satisfactory finish unless you are going to paint them body colour, even then sanding chrome is nigh on impossible its just too hard to shift

there was a large chunk of the gearbox missing on my astra after a frontal crash the firm simply built up the gap with weld,Its the route I would go down first, and a lot cheaper and you know if your box is ok,buy a secondhand one and it could be u. s.

iv had the same noise in mine for years if I sit in nutral and rev the engine it increases in volumn. If I tap the clutch with my foot a few time it goes away( No prizes for guessing that its the carbon thrust bearing sticking to the clutch pressure plate :D ).Might get round to doing it one day.

I know its probably too late for you now but each time I have changed points on su pumps I carefully count the number of turn to get the old ones off the armature shaft. Then screw the new ones on by the same number, not had to reset the points gap using this method,Seems to work out about right each...

i'm assuming you mean the long pin pivot that goes through the bottom set of pionts and the arched body of the pump. If you are then it just pulls out use a pair of long nosed pliers.Standard spanners and screw driver are all you need to get the pump out of the car,The only thing that needs care is ...
