Re: Wiper Problem (possibly fixed)

Bill I always like to get the two contact points back to clean shiny metal. The end of the spring contact " arm " and the brass insert of the metal dome. Stephen's last photo shows both items perfectly. Every point in an electrical circuit needs clean contact points for trouble free operat...

Re: Wiper Problem (possibly fixed)

When it comes to installing the wiper motor , do not put the wiper blades back on at this stage.Substitute some cardboard pointers , gaffa taped to the spindles. The cut off position for the auto park system ( with the wiper blades at the bottom of the screen ) is adjusted by rotating the exterior d...

Stephen If you have Watchmaking skills , then I'm preaching to the converted ! I have two pals that I've helped with Classic car restoration. Both have a tremendous , enthusiastic approach to dismantling car parts in the shortest possible timescale. Unfortunately an element of finesse in their appro...

Re: Wiper Problem (possibly fixed)

Stephen I think you've nipped the problem in the bud. When you have a moment , I'd' clean up the corroded Earth ring back to clean metal. Emery paper or a small brass brush. Ditto the fixing point / stud .Re- fit firmly and cover with Copa ease or a dab of vaseline to protect it for the future. The ...

Re: A strange one.

Before removing the dashpot , when it " refuses to proceed " what happens when you lift the piston lift pin. Does it feel " jammed " ? Possible causes damaged needle ? Is it perfectly straight ? Remove needle from piston , after slackening the grub screw.Place on a flat surface e...

Re: Just rebuilt fuel pump. Extra washer?

James I'm with Stephen , you have identified the washers necessary and have the double check of the Burlen Fuel diagram that Stephen posted. I have done a number of SU Fuel pumps and carburettors and I've found " the extra washer / washers " in some packs. Some deliberate where a multi pur...

An answer for your friend.Reference books show A40849 25D4 as being fitted to Minor 1000 HC 1963-66. The car you say was 1967.( Supply in the parts bin still being used up in the factory early 1967 ? till they ran out. ) Another source :- http://morrisminordoctor.com/services/dist shows 40849 B as b...

Re: Trying to fix splits in my 1963 Morris Traveller Bonnet.

Fibreglass repairs have their place ,providing the area concerned does not compromise structural integrity or as in this case is not in an area subject to continuous stress. I would continue with "pulse " welding , with your piece of brass / copper behind. It's the same technique as plug w...

Re: Reshaping traveller side panels

Philip On the assumption that you don't have any bodywork hammers and dollies , then a bit of improvisation is called for. To get rid of the dents / distortion you will need some reasonable size ( not thin wood ) wooden battens and a couple of large G cramps. A bit of a jugging exercise but place a ...

Re: Servicing the distributor

Getting at the distributor at the back / base of the engine on a Morris Minor to check over / clean things is a pain as regards access. A lot of people find it easier to remove the whole thing. Before you panic , just take elementary precautions. 1. Make sure that the HT leads are numbered 1 to 4 ( ...

Re: Indicator stalk warning light problem

+ 1 for JowettJavelin's suggestions. When you pull out the wiring , clean up the pin on the flasher ( marked P ) and the bullets on the flasher wiring. A good " polish " with sand paper or emery cloth will ensure you have a decent electrical connection. Make sure the wire itself hasn't bee...
