Re: Self Cancelling Indicator Trigger

It could be that you have the flasher unit B and L wires reversed, they used to be marked X and L. It won’t do harm to reverse them. Assuming it isn’t an electronic version. B = Battery (ignition switch) Green wire L = Load (indicator switch) Green/Brown wire P = Pilot (tale tell) Light Green wire R...

Re: Won’t start Electronic distributor problem?

11V when cranking should be fine. Being a 1957 car I thought it had the pull start switch, not a solenoid, that does bring the ignition switch in to question. The Accuspark needs a 12V via the ignition switch, are you losing that whilst cranking and intermittent at the on position, so you need to ch...

Re: Won’t start Electronic distributor problem?

If the charging system isn't working properly then the battery voltage will drop giving your symptoms, so we need to see if the battery voltage is the cause before going further.
Bear in mind if your car has a dynamo they don't charge at idle speed.

Re: Won’t start Electronic distributor problem?

The only difference between starter handle cranking and starter motor cranking is battery voltage. Makes me think your battery is at fault, just enough power to turn the engine over but not enough voltage for the Accuspark. I've had cars where if the battery voltage is low the electronics shut off. ...

Spade on case is Earth. The other spade is switched +12V supply. The bullet goes to the points side on the coil. A useful link https://www.triumphclub.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/A-gentlemans-guide-to-Smiths-tachometers-1.pdf Edit; I forgot to mention the spade on the round disc is the night il...

Re: Tracking - string method

No wonder you can’t get your head around it, the guy in the linked Youtube clip is doing it wrong. He has the basics, but you need two pieces of thin string or fishing line mounted beyond the car bumpers pulled very tight, they need to be parallel to each other and the car. When setting it up it hel...

Re: Hard-drive like clunking noise at low revs

As you’ve recently changed the distributor and noticed the noise shortly after, and with the high revs due to the throttle return spring, makes me wonder if something is going on with the weights in the distributor, perhaps contacting the distributor body due to weak springs or weights stuck in the ...

Re: Noisy clutch

When you push the clutch pedal down you are disconnecting the gearbox from the engine, therefore the gearbox stops turning and the noise stops. This is why I think it is your gearbox, first motion shaft bearing or layshaft bearings, as the noise isn’t too bad at the moment it may last for a few year...

Re: Noisy clutch

Going by your description, I reckon your noise is coming from the gearbox, possibly Layshaft bearings.

Re: Help I need a Wiring Diagram with Alternator

You won’t find one because there isn’t one, apart from I think some of the very last Minors supplied to the Police, but they had an alternator with a separate regulator and was positive earth. The alternator fitted to your car will most likely be negative earth with the regulator built in and would ...

Re: Water temperature sender Marina 1275

On a separate note, as I originally ordered the water temp sender from ANG (before I found out the difference between the capillary and electrical versions) I was told by ANG that my engine is probably from a 1275 Midget because it has a capillary sender. I'm a bit confused as the previous owner de...

Re: Horn

Just to add to the above, I think if your banjo steering wheel has a good horn push it will still work without modification. For completeness the Brown/Black wire on indicator stalk goes to a Brush on the indicator switch assembly, that makes contact with a slip ring on the steering column, then a w...

Re: Horn

The Purple/ Black wire connects to a Brown/Black from the indicator stalk. You just need to remove the Purple/Black from there and reconnect it to your new dash switch, the other side of the dash switch needs to be connected to the car earth, as it is a switched earth horn. I am assuming you have an...

Re: 1 out of 4 Spark Plugs Looks Odd. Ideas?

The tappet screw is listed as 9/32 26 uns, so 26 threads per inch. 1 full revolution would be 0.038 so 1/3 turn would give you your 12thou clearance ( 0.0126 ) So you could bottom the screw, so zero lash, you should be able to turn the pushrod but no clearance, now count how many clicks on your new...
