Re: Radiator screen
I've got a sheet of mesh slipped down in front of the grill. It doesn't seem to affect the cooling at all, probably less than the whole air force of bugs and insects that get wedged in there. I lost a new rad to a stone, if I'd have fitted the mesh earlier it would have saved some money. :( I'll me...

Re: Radiator screen
I wouldn't go to the trouble of fitting a mesh screen - I expect the damage was caused by something else and the wasp just happened to have ended up in the damaged area. I suppose it could be an extremely rare form of wasp which eats ball bearings rather than sugary things but I imagine the chances...

Radiator screen
As I have been fiddling recently with engine cooling problems and as I had "one off for the Queen" today, I thought I would check out how good the original 94k mile rad was. I had no idea the impact a wasp has on Radiator fins, the damage is quite extraordinary. I wondered if anyone had ma...

Re: Fitting clip on side mirrors and grille badge???
Why do the wing mirrors get knocked?? Mine are fine - they even fold back nicely at speed for better streamlining........ I tend to move them when washing etc Now of course I have 4 mirrors, emulating a customised scooter, I did wonder if there was a plug or blank to fit after removal of the wing m...

Re: Series MM overheating?
many thanks for the sermon! do you use deionised water, or good old corporation pop? I have used tap water, but have always been intrigued by the statement in the Leyland Manual that suggests rain water :o Of which here in the North East we have a plentiful supply thanks to Kielder reservoir not su...

Re: Series MM overheating?
Just changed the radiator cap on mine and cured the same but possibly more dramatic leak on my 1098. I flushed out the rad by disconnecting the lower hose and pouring water down said open top of rad. The cap was old and sticking at an angle and jamming open, do make sure you get the same length cap,...

Re: Wing Mirrors
I haven't used quarter light mirrors myself so it wasn't a recommendation, I was just providing some suggestions for where you could get some from. Take it from me Louise, as long as you have the gear required, hacksaw, vice, posidrive,13mm spanner, drill and drillbit, they are easy to fit and a so...

Re: Fitting clip on side mirrors and grille badge???
I would be tempted to exchange them for the type that fit to the triangular metal plate ahead of the quarterlight. You need a posidrive and a 13mm spanner, a drill and bit, a hacksaw and vice to cut the mirror studs to length, but when fitted they dont foul anything and unlike the clip on type dont n...

Engine overheat
For anyone that may get the engine overheat problem I got last week, coughing water all around the engine bay. I read with interest all the possible things that can cause this issue on the various threads first and in the end checked the Radiator cap as a starting point. It was old and when depresse...

Re: Electronic fuel pump
If it was faulty - the supplier should have either given you a refund, or a replacement right away. You should not have to 'wait' - the responsibility lies with the retailer. I missed this reply BMC, Tom Roy did offer to credit me straight away. However I asked them simply to supply me with a new o...

Re: Wing Mirrors
Hello all, I am new to the site and to Morris Minor ownership! As of about 3 days ago I am the proud owner of a 1969 almond-green 2-door saloon. Hardly been used by its one previous owner, garaged its whole life when not used and in lovely condition. I am loving driving it - just one thing I am rea...

Re: RIDICULOUS INSURANCE PRICES???
Let us clarify a few things everyone. <snip> Insuring a car cheaply is not a right. It's a commercial transaction between two parties. An individual has the right to approach as many companies as they wish to determine who will offer them the best terms, then decide if the cost is affordable. Thank...

Have you uprated the brakes first?
If not, its worth thinking about stopping power before increasing velocity (I know Im a party pooper )

Regarding the oil leak i was asking about,i have located the drainage plug on the bottom of the gear box,and it is where i can see oil (drip) What could this be???????? Pete Maybe a good opportunity to change the gearbox oil and nip the plug.Or just nip the plug. I like ptfe thread tape, just a lit...

Re: Wing Mirrors
Thanks, both. I have the same mirrors as I can see on Moggiethouable's car and they do not do much. So, I guess what I need is quarter light mirrors. I didn't realise how much I use my wing mirrors on my other car at roundabouts etc and I am finding it a bit tricky without them. I live in Cardiff a...

Ray that's no way to speak of her, but you do have a point. Yeh steady on Ray, she can spell too. Daniel, we have speed bumps all over our streets and until you put a Moggie over a speed bump you dont realise how firm the leaf springs and dampers are, I cover 30,000 miles annually in my other motor...

Re: Wing Mirrors

Re: Non functioning horn
When my horn last malfunctioned it turned out that coincidentally the courtesy light also failed.
Turned out it was the fuse holder for both items, the sprung contacts just needed a little finger and thumb compression to grab the fuse a little tighter.Hope after all this it aint that.
