Day off from car restoration today, Harry's Birthday treat to Bovington Tank Museum with two school chums. Here (pretending, phew) to be run over by a giant experimental vehicle from 1959 called a Rhino. (most powerful land vehicle on earth for it's time.) If you think this truck looks big, imagine ...

Let the local police know and get a serial number to prove you've reported that you are taking action to recover. They can also inform yo...

Hi Morrisfan, the main reason I recovered the pickup relic was it had a lot of recoverable parts, and I found that the pickup version was quite unusual, I won't go so far as to say rare. This is a far worse case scenario, its a relatively less rare body type, and there are some saloons out there in ...

I understand why now, the leafs don't just bend as one, they slide againts one another, so if they are smooth and well oiled the suspension will be smoother, well, thats the theory.
Image
Alex and Mark, you are a fountain of knowledge. here's the knotted wheel I got from Halfords, a two thirds the price of the cup that wore away, and yes you do get a great finish even though it looks course.
Image
You are right alex, as soon as I start on the larger bits the rust dust will be oppressive and potentially harmful, so yes I will add those items to my already alien like appearance, It'll get the kids chuckling if nothing else.

Great project Tim. With you on this one mate, are you going to restore it back to how it was when it was built, or are you following on from the last owner who seems to have up-um-graded the dash.

I should paint this right away to prevent immediate corrosion, I'm going to leave it on the workbench overnight in a locked workshop and picture it again tommorow, what do you think, will it still be grey, or light red brown? there's still some traces of corrosion in there, but lets just see.
ht...

I know I look a pratt, but I'm so glad that in this day and age, with the un- faltering invasion of health and safety into our lives, we blokes can wear silly clobber and not feel that we are out of step with the modern world. I for one am so glad, cos I have such a low pain threshhold. If I caught ...

Well, here are the springs at the start of the disassembly, my original question asking if I should restore and use these original leaf springs is academic really as Wibble Puppy has donated two leaf springs to my project, some of the leafs are better than the original one's on the car, mind you it ...

This little fella looks on in amazement to see the rear axle in reasonably solid condition, mind you he's been uttering unhelpful and sarcastic comments ever since the pickup arrived, causing his hutch to be moved, and spoiling his view of next doors rabbit hutch.
http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?...
