Re: Fan blade colour

I had an early 948cc Minor 1000 - it was late a 1950s car but I can't remember what year - and it certainly had a red fan. My 1961 car - also 948cc - has a yellow one, so at some stage during 948 production they seem to have changed but I can't tell you when! Unfortunately on most underbonnet pictur...

Re: how do i date my car?

That is much too late a chassis number to have a "SMM" prefix.
I agree, it looks like a late Series 11 car and the chassis number would also seem to suggest late 1955 or early 1956?
Most Lucas electrical parts are date coded - can you read a date code on any?

Re: Getting Tyred...

As Mike says, all Minor 1000 cars had 3.00" width wheels right upto the end of production. I personally think they drive best on 145 section radial tyres but many owners use 155 section tyres without problems.

Re: convertible sill reinforcment

If you take the "inner sill" - the right angled section inside the car and covered with carpet. The extra strengthener used in the production of an original convertible (and traveller) was attached to the INSIDE of that panel so that it is largely invisible and impossible to add later. On ...

Re: 1960 4 Door Saloon

Another point is that you cannot actually GET the correct boot hinges for that age of Minor (the later hinges and all replacements are a different profile) so restoring the originals will give the finished car a MUCH more authentic look :) I much prefer to save as many original parts as possible and...

Re: Administration fee when buying a car.

I think it's highly misleading to add "hidden costs" to any purchase and is poor business practice - but it is quite common now, particularly with the large "car supermarket" type dealers. Such costs should be listed in the advertisment of course. I can top that though....I've wo...

These areas were just covered with an overspray of the body colour really.

Re: Just got a Traveller! Some electric problems

My guess would be that you have (another) faulty flasher unit. Something I've had experience of myself. Twice :x .
Do you know anyone locally who has a similar car with a working one? At least you could temporarily swap them just to check?

Re: Price of trafficators

Just google "Lucas trafficator" or "Morris Minor trafficator" or look on ebay. Either will show you what they sell for. The reproduction orange lenses commonly available are pretty inferior to the original Lucas branded ones which fetch a premium price as a result. The newest car...

Re: Is it really cherokee red

Cherokee Red is the standard interior colour for a Minor of that age. Is that what you're asking? Without seeing a picture of your car it is impossible to tell what you have now - many cars have been re-trimmed of course. I have one with that colour original interior and new parts available now are ...

Re: Minor indicators

My guess would be that your new/replacement flasher unit is faulty. I have exactly the same fault with not one but TWO replacements! In the end I bought a secondhand original one and it has been perfect ever since :) .

Re: White 1960 saloon, abandoned in Salisbury, probably stolen

Is it a 'very rare' LBM car ??? Sadly this "abandoned" Morris would seem to be too new (registered in 1960) to be a "rare LBM" car  . Otherwise I guess it would be very valuable...... Not that most of us think they ARE rare as there have been several for sale just in...

Re: 1960 4 Door Saloon

I agree. Well done for taking on such a project. Many cars in that condition are discarded because the cost of restoration is far more than the car's final value. Cars of that period are my favorites - I just like that specification with a few earlier features combined with a little more practicalit...

Re: colour?

I would say that your car looks more like Frilford Grey than any other Minor colour although it looks slightly different in each picture! The original colour is not recorded on these cars anywhere unfortunately but Frilford Grey would be correct for a 1959/60 Minor. Either the paint used in a previo...

Re: Find the owner

This sort of thing probably happens more frequently nowadays, particularly in towns, as many people seem not to know their neighbours and also many people live in accommodation where they have no driveway/parking area and often have to park some distance from their home.

Quite extraordinary that a car which is taxed and legally parked can be regarded as "abandoned" by a council..... Particularly a council who can't even record the registration number correctly :x If they have contacted the police regarding the car, the fact that they have the wrong registr...

Re: Passenger door external lock

The external lock appeared on the passenger door of (RHD) 2 door, convertible and traveller models fairly early in the production of 1098cc models I think. Either at the same time as the later dashboard or slightly before so either 1963 or 1964. Never fitted to 4 door models (or commercials) as far ...
