Re: Twin carbs
I would think it's the noise factor that is the problem. I had a very similar set-up to yours and finally got myself a 4.2 diff. It has made the gearbox/drive much more flexible.

Re: HOW SAFE ARE WE?
I trained as a driving instructor years ago and did the job for a few years. I only mention this as up until that point I thought that I was a reasonably good driver, with only one minor accident in 8 years. I was shocked to find that I wasn't a very good driver. Defensive driving (me thinks) is rea...

Re: Engine tightness
Interesting. I've not heard of fitting it without the rings. I would have been fearful of damaging the bores, but if it works then good idea, as it's difficult to check the 'big-ends' for tightness with the rings attached, particularly if the rings are new.

Re: HS4 or HS6 - That is the question!
Just a question to put out there. When I re-built my 948, I did compare the mains end caps locating rings with a 1098 and noticed that they were different sizes. This may be of no consequence, as you'd simply use the 1098 caps (or not!?) However, are the caps the same size/width? I can't remember. I...

Re: HS4 or HS6 - That is the question!
I very much like the 950. Mine has been bored to 998 and warmed up. A tuned 1098 certainly has more torque, perhaps better acceleration. But, the 950 is 'sweet', it loves to rev, gives reasonable acceleration and can break the speed limit on the motorway! And most importantly, gives a very reasonabl...

Re: HS4 or HS6 - That is the question!
The HS6 is really too big. A HS4 or HIF38 should work, although some may disagree. Most 'mini' 998s run with a HS4 which has the small valve head. Is yours a standard spec 950?

Also worth keeping or selling on, are the Torsion bars. The Ital ones are thicker than the original Marina ones AND if you can make or find the brackets, a useful upgrade for a Minor.

Re: morris ital
As above. However, there are some parts that are of value to marina and kit car enthusiasts. I scrapped one myself. 1)chrome 'beauty' rings for the wheels. 2)The dual circuit servo master cylinder 3)Gauges 4)interior if it's the 'SL' 5)viscous cooling fan 6)uprights/trunnions 7)tank (maybe) 8)steeri...

Re: Alternator pulley too small?
As Roy has said 'managing' the load in traffic is a good tip. I have a 'volts' gauge fitted to mine (a lot of folk don't like them but it is part of a triple gauge cluster) and the biggest draw on power is the heater fan. With the lights and wipers on it still comes in at 13.5v but as soon as the fa...

Re: head gasket leak
Are you sure that it's not leaking from the thermostat housing or it's pipe connection or the temperature sender (if you have one). Or even blow back from the top of water pump or the little stub connection on the pump.

Re: Alternator pulley too small?
I believe making the pulley bigger will make it worse. If you have an electric test meter set to 'volts' you should get a reading of more than 14v across the + and - terminals of the battery, with the engine running. Actually, just tested my 'modern'. 12.8v across the Battery terminals before engine...

Re: VW weekend
There was a VW meet and auto jumble during the summer on Southsea seafront common (Portsmouth). Entrance was free but if you were showing your car it was approx £12. I was impressed with the distances some of these folk had travelled. Had children's 'street dancing' show and some other small enterta...

Re: Favourite Beers
The serving of beer is, in my limited experience, is dependant on what type of beer it is and what time of year. An ice cold cider or larger is 'well lush' in the summer. But less so a real ale, which for me is a winter pint. During the summer one of my faves is a sommerset cider or perry, served in...

Interesting. I have one of those 'mini' pumps on mine (as pictured), curious as it's made in New Zealand. It has worked well for several years. Famous last words, perhaps.

Pressure release valve/spring assembly, perhaps? Or have you already fitted a new one?

I can only suggest that you move all the dissy leads forward one space and then if still it wont start, try them all back one space from where they are at the mo. I have found this to work on occasion.

Re: waxoil?
Dinitrol make both an underbody waxoil and a cavity one, in a rattle can and spay gun. Supposed to be the 'high-end' product. But yet to try it myself.
I have tried another brand in the past on the under-body and I didn't think it was very effective. As pointed out, it's more of a cavity wax.
