Re: Torque Wrench

I hate to have to say it, but by far the best i've ever used was the snap-on one, they beep rather than click which is significantly better, and are set to do so ever so slightly under torque, as you always go an extra 1% or so before you realise, so I imagine they must be and stay pretty darn accur...

Around £150 for the marina engine, the gearbox is pretty much scrap value though i'd imagine.

Re: Telescopic shoc absorber conversions

To be honest, you are better just buying the new hubs from esm, they will then be minor pcd (rather than marina) And are a much better design, the adapter sleeves are no longer as easily available.

Thats good then. SO just to clarify, even if a young owner has no access to another vehicle, FJ will still insure them? If its for personal/business commuting?

Re: Telescopic shoc absorber conversions

The best solution is the JLH kit, http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/, however i have the bolt on esm style front kit fitted, and I find it works very well, definite improvement over standard re-filled dampers. It gives you the front end balance you need when cornering. Tele damper kits are also adjus...

Re: Footman James problem. No access to another vehicle.

No longer true, on the facebook page a week ago dave youngs posted that fj had indeed stopped insuring new young members as their sole car. Only existing members would be renewed. I dont know if that has changed in the last week, but....

Yes, hammer off splines, towards back of car. Just get out there and do it, its much easier to understand once you start.

Re: Front Tyre wear/Camber Angle

You are also inducing a greater steering axis inclination angle (kingpin angle) by shimming out the bottom to give the more negative camber. The greater SAI in fact causes positive camber gain in turn of said outside wheel, hence the need for more caster angle also.

Just as a general point, this is not the case on a minor with marina discs, the car can be easily stopped, and the wheels locked without a servo.

Re: Remote brake servo for MM

But its easy enough to lock the brake pedals on a minor, regardless of make/model. This is as standard, with a well maintained brake system, so I dont see why extra force would help? If you can lock the wheels then surely the maximum is easily obtainable? I agree though it is somewhat speed dependan...

Re: Remote brake servo for MM

A vacuum brake booster gives an appreciable increase in stopping performance. In theory, the previous post is correct, in practice however the theory does not hold water, stopping distances are dramatically decreased and it is so much easier to stop in a hurry or avoid a collision. Can you explain ...

Re: Remote brake servo for MM

A servo wont give you any more stopping power, it just means you have to push the pedal less hard. If this is the limiting factor then do so, however in most cases it is not. New adjusted brake pads should do the job. If set however on it, the plumbing will be the same as for any other minor.

Re: Wheel Alignment

What kind of 'alignment' place is this? All of the good ones, with excellent new equipment should definitely have morris minors in the database. Oddly they are meant to have something like 1 deg of POSITIVE camber.. Also they should check the camber when aligning it, and you can always get camber sh...

Does this mean she's a transitional? I really dont get this whole 'transitional thing' probably nearly half of all minors were a mixture of whatever they had lying around at the time in the factory, a combination of different stages, and interior/exterior/engine mods they bought it at any given tim...

Re: Is florence a transitional '62?

You can see by looking at the position of the wipers if they are clap hand or not.. Also, the sunvisors, are they bolted straight to the top of metal windscreen frame, or mounted in the corner, so that you cna pivot them round like in a modern car to cover the side window too?
