Re: where to jack up the front and back?
I jack under each chassis leg individually, just be careful to use a nice block of wood as a load spreader.

The wide wheels I linked you to are a bargain atm really, unlikely to get a powder coated set for less!

Re: Torque Wrench
Hate to admit it, but the snap on ones are really good quality, incredibly accurate, as they beep at you around 2% early or something as they found people went this much extra anyway.. They are also pretty darn tough.

Stop being boring and negative you lot, nothing duller than a row of morris minors all looking the same. A morris minor is not a rare car.. I like what your doing personalising it, best of luck, and keep us updated.

Completely agree. Also if vizard says you should ALWAYS do it, then I see no reason to disagree!

Re: Engine Rebuild
You can tap them to whatever thread you want. Then just go down to your local plumbing place to get the appropriate plugs. But be warned there has been mention recently on mini forums about fitting slightly too long plugs, and it blocking oil ways, ruining your lovely rebuilt engine! Unless its a ra...

Re: Engine Rebuild
Read the bible. He tells you to always remove the oil gallery plugs. Drilling and tapping mine didn't work as the nut pulled out first. So i used a tap of almost the plug diameter to cut a thread into the outer of the plug, which actually just rotated the plug loose. I know 1275 brass ones are still...

Re: 12G1316 head vs. 12G940
For all intensive purposes nothing. They have I believe extra air holes or similar for the exhaust ports. And according to the bible they are thicker around the exhaust ports, so allow for marginally better shaping. But in essence nothing worthwhile or significantly different.

Re: Engine recon
Dont automatically go for a crank regrind. It could well be fine if its been a well cared for engine. It is very easy to tell though when stripping the engine/crank to tell if it is worn, grooved etc. Any grooves you can feel, or pitting on the crank is a sure sign it needs a regrind. Also look on t...

Talking of putting people right on details. I had a man come up to me and point to the blanked off trafficator moulding on my 4 door's b-post. He tapped on it and said 'bet you didn't know this... but that's the one thing they changed during the whole of production'. When I'd stopped laughing I wal...

Re: Engine recon
Pistons rarely need replacing unless the engine is rebored or it's been run without enough oil. But surely most engines being reconned will be pretty warn. They will almost certainly need re-honing, and preferably re-boring too! (from my experience of the dimensions of the bores on the 3 engines i'...
