Re: camshaft
I understand what your saying phil. I think I am being a little harsh on this. I can turn the camshaft by hand.

Re: camshaft
When taking the camshaft out with the old bearings in the block, that had more resistance.

Re: camshaft
surely it cant be beginners luck? camshaft bearings were purchased from ESM. the camshaft fits nicely. if I put a spanner on the chain wheel end, I can turn the camshaft easily when its fitted in the block. very slight resistance (as you would expect). to wind the bushes in, I used a pair of mg midg...

Re: camshaft
yes I agree Les. I have 948 internals in my 803 box and a 4.2 diff.
covered on another thread, I have a HIF 38 carb with a marina manifold and custom built 40mm exhaust.
I'm looking forward to fitting all this at the end of the summer.

Re: camshaft
sorry I didn't make it clear. ive decided to fit a 1098 now with other uogrades. the 948 is still in the car. today I fitted new camshaft bearings to the 1098. this is a simple job. I used 2 old brake pistons. I drilled a hole in the middle of both of them and tapped one of them M12. a long M12 bolt...

Re: maniflow exhausts
There is no spacer ring between the Marina/Ital exhaust & manifold. It is installed exactly the same way as the Morris Minor 1000 with the two piece clamp and two bolts/nuts and washers. The part No: of the Marina/Ital manifold to exhaust pipe clamp is Pt No: GEX7284. Here is a link to a correc...

Re: maniflow exhausts
I am now have the exhaust. one remaining question, would there be a spacer ring/gasket between the exhaust and manifold that the clamp goes around? the clamp I have is a fraction too big. (couple of MM). I could fill this with paste but am unsure.

Re: maniflow exhausts
after some in depth research, ive now decided on what I am doing. (its a shame my wife doesn't know after 16 years of marriage what she's doing still). I have the HIF 38 carb and a marina manifold now. I am going to use the combined inlet/exhaust manifold, not an after market water cooled inlet mani...

Re: Rear spring shackle plates failed
this happened on a dual carriageway in my A30 at 60mph. it frightened the life out of me. I had to lip home at 20mph (not hard in an A30). last September I replaced all the rear suspension and hopefully that should out live me now.

Re: maniflow exhausts
ive managed to get hold of a NOS manifold 12G 3538. think its from a rover metro? ive also got a HIF38 carb now as well. on the manifold, it has a 2" flange with 36mm internal bore. now I think the standard flange is 1.75". so I would like to know if anyone has fitted this manifold and how...

Re: Oil filter conversion
one of the 1st upgrades I did 20 years ago was to fit the spin on filter. much better and when I bought 100 spin on filters for £100 a few years ago, I never needed to buy another in my lifetime. I have sold a few to mates, but still have enough.

Re: Mot
you dont need to do anything. when my mot ran out in 2013, I never bothered to test it again. why pay when I don't have to. when it required tax, I did it online. the status said MOT EXEMPT without me having to do anything. I also didn't need to tell the insurance either. when I called to renew, I m...

anyone ever flown with Norwegian air to America?
I'm looking at flights to the states this autumn and have found this company doing premium flights for around £1000 return which is premium. they state its the same as business class.
