Re: Negative earth v positive earth
Thats brilliant thank you :D Im really glad that everything is in order as neg/earth set up. My next steps are to add the 12v socket, temp gauge for main starters. I wonder if I was to wire up a cd stereo would I have sufficient power over time to use this or is it not worth the hassle for loosing ba...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
Well I did think that Id explained things clearer this time but obviously not :o I've just taken the pictures below and to reconfirm that the wire that is now red (as correctly fitted) was black previously and the black (now fitted correctly) was red. These were before my ownership. I have also turn...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
I originally had a red battery cable bolted to the body on the passenger side and connecting to the battery neg post. on the drivers side I had a black cable connected to the battery + I have now turned the battery round in its cradle and I have swapped the red wire over with the black cable (by dis...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
So I'm going to the neg/earth route and changing the battery round I have a brown wire on the starter switch under the bonnet, where the black wire was fitted. I've now fitted red on this switch... To positive and black earth to neg on the battery. Does that thinner brown wire that was on the starte...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
I did think that might be the best option Mike,of going neg/earth in order to use on modern items. So to confirm to change to neg/earth 1. change battery around in its carrier to connect terminals opposite to before. 2.Alter the coil connections over to match. 3.polarise the dynamo by 'flashing' a w...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
Going back to my question..The items that I would really like to wire up are.. Old fashioned Smiths temp gauge and a 12V socket I did consider a radio/cd but I guess that I would need to start considering alternator fitting..In which case Im not so concerned having the music system. How do I wire th...

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
So with regards to fitting a 12v socket to my positive earth car would I still connect the red to a live and the black to an earth in the standard way, as well as wiring up my temp gauge in the same way?
I maybe over thinking this...or maybe not

Re: Negative earth v positive earth
All very informative and interesting comments again thank you :D I have just purchased a 1963 pull starting, positive earth Convertible and I would like to keep it as standard as possible except for fitting the following (if possible) Smiths temp gauge. 12v socket for various requirements when neede...

Negative earth v positive earth
Following on from my post of alternator v dynamo as a similar type thread I wonder if many owners have changed from Positive earth to negative earth or just stayed as original. If still original have you had any issues with maintaining/using your Minor? What are the plus v minus of either set up ple...

Dynamo v Alternator
With many of the Minor upgrades that are out there I wonder how many Minors are still running with the standard Dynamo as oposed to the Alternator upgrade?
If still with the original dynamo set up do you find any issues with daily driving please?

key needed
I have a morris minor convertible 1963 with no key for the boot lock (not seized) and I wonder if anybody can tell me what letters I am looking for before the numbers 885.
The door and ignition keys are both not original keys and are key blanks so no fs etc letters on them.

Re: differences between 1000 and 1098
Well for starters, if it's a 63, it should be a 1098, because the change over from 948 to 1098 was Sep 62..... :-? All Minors, after SII are '1000' models, whether 948 or 1098 cc.... :-? :-? Would you like to clarify your question.... Logbook stats may 1963 morris 1000 convertible and engine states...

Re: Thinking about my future with my Morris Minor
For myself having a Morris Minor gives me a lot of pleasure and at the same time you end up using the car as a hobby, tinkering and improving the car how you would like to.I know that I don't have the same connection to our reliable daily driver vauxhall Mokka as I do with the Moggie. I guess it is w...

Re: club subscription renewal due, do I or don't I?
I have been a member for several years and I feel that I Am helping to promote the Owners club, which is good not just for now but for future generations of Morris Minor ownership. I don't take advantage of discounts etc as so far as I have got better offers elsewhere. As Morris fans surely we need ...
