Les, Firedrake, looking at my NMP plate again the L/H Z number is a smaller font than the R/H number.

Re: NMP (Nuffield Metal Products) plates
Les, Firedrake. My pickup is a later Austin badged model and the L/H No is Z35127-34 and the R/H number is 6 digits. All numbers are stamped normally, ie not reverse stamped. Both numbers are clearly visible on NMP plate but on the bulkhead strip the L/H number is very lightly stamped and the font i...

Re: Radiator coolant
The coolant in Phil’s link is Premixed so would not need diluting. Here is a link to Bluecol Antifreeze concentrate that would need diluting 50/50 for all year round corrosion protection. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluecol-Universal-Antifreeze-Summer-Coolant-Concentrate-2-Year-Protect-1-5L/123151745...

Will be interesting to see what happens to the top coat.

Re: Yet another Indicator Flasher question...?
As far as I know the SFB105 is a thermal type flasher unit so shouldn’t work with LED bulbs unless the bulb is the type that has an additional low value resistance added to increase the current to that of a conventional bulb. Could be just luck with the other flasher unit or it has been opened and h...

Re: Washer pump
Just looked on the ESM website and noticed they do a kit with a push switch, if yours matches that it indicates the hole may have been drilled out too 20mm, I think the manual pump is 14.5mm. If it has a flick switch then the hole won’t have been enlarged. I also noticed that the supplied kits don’t...

Re: Washer pump
Running dry, they need water as a lubricant. They are also polarity sensitive so would protest to being run backwards. Don’t know about iron filings, the impellers used to be a rubber type material unless the newer ones design has changed. A non-return valve should also be used.

Re: Where have my lights gone?
I don’t think it was the battery earth as you’d probably started the car like that. As I suspected the wiring has been altered. Difficult to say without seeing it but:- The silver box most likely is used to tidy up (hide) the cable joins, so may be worth a look inside. The 12V feed will most likely ...

Re: Petrol Tank sender unit
Could be a coincidence. Probably the first test would be to ground the wire at the sender and see if the gauge goes to full and shows empty with the wire disconnected then prime suspect would be the sender. Either gone faulty, jammed at a position or float fallen off, or your modified sender could h...

Re: Where have my lights gone?
Sorry, just pointing out you won’t be getting a shock, you only get that from the coil, but to be aware of the amount of current with short circuits.
Anyhow I think you will spot the problem straight away.
Good luck.

Re: Driving to Scotland - Any Tips?
Why can’t you just squash the hose like you would a brake pipe, Molegrips with added insulation tape to stop sharp edges cutting in to the hose and can be removed instantly.

Have you seen this post: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32333&p=538107&hilit It is most likely what has happened to yours. I noticed one of my gearboxes has a bronze spacer on the selector rail to prevent this. If you take the side cover off the gearbox take note of detent springs and balls that ma...

Palacebear that’s a good point about the watch etc, that’s the reason I always wear a plastic watch.
I might sound dramatic but my brother got badly burnt removing a radio once and I’ve seen and repaired the results of too many burnt looms.
