Re: Starter Motor
That seems like a very weak battery to me. It must have been on its last legs when you took it off the road. A while without being charged has allowed it to deteriorate. It is just possible that a good charge will refresh it. You could also try taking the battery connections off and giving the...

Re: photo upload
Any luck with it yet? I can't add much to the instructions in the above link, except to say that when members are having trouble uploading, it is often because their photos are too big, and they are rejected. So it is important to reduce them in size if they are bigger than the specified limits. Goo...

Ribcase internals into a smoothcase???
Has this been done? If 'yes' what is involved? Why would I ask? In the UK, if you can't find a good smoothcase gearbox to replace your dud one--or the parts to repair your smoothcase--you would probably upgrade your Minor with a ribcase. Here, in Australia, ribcase gearboxes are far harder to find. ...

Synchro cones
Hi
Today's silly question:
Are replacement synchro cones available for Minor gearboxes, or do you have to source new gear/cone assemblies?

Re: dual circuit master cylinder.
To me, the debate about whether it is best to have diagonal or front-rear connection is a distraction. The point is that without dual-circuits, if a brake line fails, the car is likely to only stop when it collides with something. Dual circuits will give the driver a chance to stop without a collisi...

Re: dual circuit master cylinder.
I had a fan blade break off (standard factory) when I was driving along, giving the engine a big rev. It made a clean cut through the brake line. Fortunately, I was able to bring the car to a standstill without hitting anything. That was warning enough for me--these days, I like the security of dual...

Re: dual circuit master cylinder.
An Aussie company, Minor Magic, makes a very nice dual-circuit kit using this master cylinder. It has a website, but last time I looked the kit wasn't shown....conversion using a mazda 323 M/C...
BTW -- I have no connection with Minor Magic.

Ribcase gearbox behind a 948
Hi I did a search on this and was surprised that I could only find a couple of threads that mentioned it. My issue is that my smoothcase has damaged teeth on the laygear (1st). New replacements don't seem to be available. Good used replacements seem to be very scarce too. I have access to a ribcase ...

Smooth-case 1st cluster gear
Are new first gears still available for the smooth-case box?
Edit: Just to be clear, it looks like the laygear is what I am after.
I've got a couple of boxes that are in good nick apart from 1st.

Re: Which panel to buy?
One reason for the repair panel over sheet steel is its got that bulge in the jacking point and is the right gauge pre-cut already, which for the price the repair section is would be a bargain. I bought one of these repair panels a year or two back. It was a very simple panel, the main feature bein...

Re: Datsun A15 1500cc with Automatic Trans
Hi again
Many who fit a Datsun engine fit a Datsun Sunny (B310) rear axle. It is the right width for the Minor and like the engine is very tough and has a suitable ratio. It will need new Minor mounting perches fitted to it. Obviously, a custom-modified tailshaft will be required.

Yes.
When taking the plug out of the bottom, be very careful not to lose the valve parts that will be released. And note how they go together when replacing.

Re: shock absorber oil type and how much
Hello again
I can't give you a precise measurement. From memory, it seemed like only 1/2 cup.
So if you buy a 1 litre bottle, you will easily do all of them (the rears need to be taken off to refill).

Re: shock absorber oil type and how much
Hi and welcome There is a lot of previous discussion about this here. If you do a search, you will find all you need to know. In short, it seems that the original oil in the dampers is equivalent to monograde 20 engine oil. If you want to improve (increase) the damping, you can try monograde 30 or e...

Re: Datsun A15 1500cc with Automatic Trans
Right lets see what I need to fabricate engine mounts anyone, suggestions to what to start with (original Datsun/morris?) In Oz, some use cut down Minor engine mounts, others use Escort mounts. In either case, engine-side mounts need to be two of those that come on the driver's side of the Datsun e...

Re: Datsun A15 1500cc with Automatic Trans
Hi 864 BYX I am an Aussie, and I can confirm that the Datsun conversion is very popular here. I think that there must be almost as many Minors with Datsun engines as those with the original lump. Corolla engines gearboxes are also very popular. Both of these drivetrains are absolutely bulletproof. T...
