...... i would think it is. Brake fluid normally resolves the paint, that´s another point you can look for. For safety reason, take off the drums and inspect the brake cylinders.

not very much...
you have to remove the hub, otherwise it is not possible to fix the backplate.
Keep in mind that the adjusters and the springs are different to the 7" setup. The cylinders are the same.

as the others told, go the safe way, replace the MC and see what else is damaged with the brake system

i personally don't know a conversion kit.
You nee, as you wrote, backplate left and right, brake-shoes, 2 springs for 8" setup each side and 8" Drums.
The brake cylinders are the same as the 7" setup.
Sometimes you can get a good used set on some selling platforms

see at this way. We discussed all possible ways to fix the springs and at least we found out how to fix them. That is what i like this forum for.

For this is the right side of the car the spring showing to the front should be fixed in the inner hole and the spring to the back fixed in the outer hole.
