Not much good for sneaking up on crooks then - they'll hear you coming from miles away!
Lovely looking car though.

Re: Colour Chart

I see there is a tear in the driver's seat but, depending on the condition of the other seats, it may be possible to mend that, give the seats some leather feed and re-colour the seats. I had a small tear in one of mine and took the cover off, glued a patch under it, used some leather repair filler ...

Re: PARP - How does it happen?

Not sure - I have a wider than usual pipe and its really loud!
Tweaking the throttle settings can make a difference.
Once I fitted a new exhaust and the sound was gone - but came back after a couple of hundred miles......no, I can't explain!

Result! I like your whitewall tyres - they break up the uniform colour of the SII cars nicely. Where did you get them?

Re: Quarter light replacement. Help.

These can be a fiddle! I have done it but can't quite remember how! It may help to try with the QL at different stages of opening and a bradawl can help line up one hole while you get a screw in the other, but be careful. May also help with someone else pushing down on the QL while you try and line ...

Re: 1956 Morris Minor 847BHN

Here is a rather sobering look round the actual 10, Rillington Place filmed in 1960. Quite a slum but viewers may also be interested in the two Minors parked in the street - a short-bonnet MM convertible (seen around 6.00) and, near the beginning, one of those new-fangled 1000 motors! Is it YLU 778....

Re: 1956 Morris Minor 847BHN

Much as Rillington Place was razed to the ground in 1978 to expunge the memories of the John Christie murders at number 10. I believe they originally tried to re-name the street Runton Close soon after Christie's arrest in 1953, but that was not enough to shake off the association with the grisly ac...

Re: Too good to use on the road...

Best have the front three-quarters if the engine and gearbox are good!
But, seriously, some people must be willing to pay these silly prices or dealers wouldn't be selling them.

Re: rear spring leaf numbers

In fact looking at the old springs one leaf is actually thicker than all the others? Quite possible - who knows who had the car in the past and what they did......especially with a modest little car like the Minor. Plenty of owners find they have to 'undo' all sorts of bodges and dubious 'improveme...

A few years ago both my (old) front dampers began leaking, one after the other, and had to be replaced. But disappointing that you should have problems with a re-con unit :(

Re: Rear Valance

You are right 'ManyMinors'. Half an hour with a hammer, screwdriver and a vice has made a vast improvement! Once it is de-rusted a judicious bit of filler and a paint job should have it totally useable 8)

Re: Rear Valance

Thanks Bob. The rust actually looks worse in the pics than it really is - a lot of what you see is dirt. But - I have no experience of panel beating so probably not cost effective to pay for someone to do it. Pity as it would have made a good spare...... :(

Rear Valance

I found this behind a pile of wood in my shed. It has sustained some crumple damage at both ends. Wondering if it can (easily) be put right or no. Otherwise only some surface rust.

Re: What would go here?

"That picture (showing the chassis plate) is from a reply not the OP" - eh? Nobody said it was, Mike.
'trmorrisminor' is the OP and his post mentioning the solenoid sets up his query to 'mobylette' about possible differences between earlier and late van vin plate locations.
