Re: Breather set up for a late 1098 engine
Mike The pipe from the breather canister does not go to the filter as shown in the photo, it goes onto the brass stub pipe in the far side of the carb body. A standard Minor carb may not have the brass pipe fitted, I used a Mini carb body on my Traveller when I did this conversion. It is however pos...

Re: Breather set up for a late 1098 engine
Once you get the breather canister fitted you will not need a pipe between the rocker cover and the back of the filter, so keep the rocker cover you already have. If you contact " the_mini_man" on ebay he sometimes has the correct tappet breather canister for a minor, that is where I got m...

Re: Breather set up for a late 1098 engine
It looks like some mad professor has been playing around with your carburettor, there is not much left that is standard. From your photo it looks like you do have the side port I was talking about, but it has a push in fitting type elbow attached to it and then blanked off (the black elbow with the ...

Re: Breather set up for a late 1098 engine
Does your carb have a small brass inlet stub on the far side of it looking at your photo. That is the normal connection point for the later breather canister. You are looking for one of these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MORRIS-MINOR-MG-MIDGET-ENGINE-BREATHER-TAPPET-COVER-CAN-TYPE-1098-1100-ENGINE-/2...

Did your "Mini Specialist" do a road test ?
I would be interested to know what they thought of the "clatty" noise you mention.

Re: traveller petrol pipe
There is a flexible hose between the tank inlet and the actual filler pipe, the filler pipe is straight and goes through the side panel at an angle.
But there is a special rubber trim around that pipe which is "supposed" to seal onto the outside of the panel.

Re: Noisy engine & lack of power at speed
Chances are the RAC would not be able to do anything with it.
I guess they will just transport it to a garage and let them fix it for you at your own expense.
I would be very surprised if they start taking it to bits on your own drive.

Re: My 'Modern' during lockdown...
I keep wondering about buying myself a welder, but don't want to tempt fate. At the moment any odd welding jobs I need can be done where I work. My modern has not been very far since I started working from home in March, I go back to work in the office from tomorrow, so went to fill it up yesterday....

Re: thread size please
Yes it is the nominal bore of the pipe used for BSP. Quite often the thread is applied directly to the ends of steel tubing so that is why it is done like that. You are not the first person to misunderstand this, it catches plenty of folks out. I am a mechanical design engineer by trade, and have wh...

Re: thread size please
It is unlikely to be 1/2" BSP that would be approx 0.825" across the threads.
I would expect it to be more likely 1/4" BSP which is 0.518" dia.
Hope my answer was more helpful this time.

The strobe is OK to get you somewhere in the right ballpark, but it is not an exact science, running the car and fine tuning for best performance and economy will be slightly different on every car. Mine was running on a bit because it was too retarded and it felt a bit gutless, I have just installe...

Re: Noisy engine & lack of power at speed
If you have changed from elecctronic module back to points and condenser, and if it was done without removing or moving the distributor. Then the timing is probably very retarded now. I dont know how this works out with other makes, but certainly with the Accuspark fitted the distributor position ha...

If the brush was almost flush with the hole, maybe it was not even making contact with the rotor arm, and the indents are a result of it just arcing across ?

Something like these would probably cover the paint damage.
