Re: Damaged radiator
I wonder whether the original blade broke as a result of hitting the radiator or hit the radiator as a result of breaking? I have seen fan blades suffer from metal fatigue and crack at the base of the blade. The act of trying to draw air in would then force the blade out and it could strike the radi...

Ah well, everything resolved, no harm done. It takes a a lot to admit making a mistake. All's well that ends well

Re: Virtually all electrical system gone.....!
I'm glad that you got it fixed, but do not understand why you need thick cable and a fuse for a voltmeter, or why you would wire it so that everything flowed through the voltmeter. Do you really mean a voltmeter, or is it perhaps an ammeter (amp meter)? Whichever, if you had provided that informatio...

Re: Virtually all electrical system gone.....!
If the DCB is not in use, then there must be another form of junction box, perhaps a "chocolate block" connector? If you can post photos of a) Your multimeter b) The bulkhead of the car showing the area between the battery and the right hand side of the car c) The Dynanator back to the are...

Re: Virtually all electrical system gone.....!
I believe that you should have a heavy duty cable from the battery to one terminal on the starter switch. From the same terminal should be a thinner, but still relatively thick, brown wire to the dynamo control box terminal A, assuming that the DCB has been left in place as a junction box. If that b...

Re: Third brake light
Presumably the third lamp is an LED unit, and your original lights still use the standard tungsten filament bulbs? If so, it is possible that the brake light switch is still making a very slight contact but the current being passed is not sufficient to illuminate the normal bulbs, but is just enough...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
YES, there is a winter/summer setting: The air filter casing can be rotated so that in the summer the intake tube is pointing away from the exhaust whilst in the winter it is rotated so that it draw warm air from immediately above the exhaust. To make the rotation, simply loosen the wing nut on top ...

Re: Heater
Sorry, I can;t remember what year your car is, but the earlier cars with a round heater were not very effective. The later rectangular heater boxes for 1098cc engines were better, and can be easily upgraded with a mini based matrix. However, before that, thoroughly flush the heater core using a gard...

Re: Pink antifreeze
The standard answer to your question is yes, drain, flush and refill with Bluecol. Plenty of discussions about this on this forum and loads of anecdotal evidence that modern antifreeze will seep and leak leading to the deposits that you have found.

I agree with Phil. I purchased a car with EP90 in it and , although the oil was clean when drained, the box was far smoother when refilled with the correct engine oil. Every Morris and Castrol lubrication guide can't be wrong.

Re: wire going to a sender unit that I should not have ?
Mike, There is an oil pressure warning light. It should come on when you turn on the ignition and then go out as soon as the engine starts. The switch is located just behind the distributor. The filter warning light appears to be connected to a temperature sender. When cold, there is no earth return...

Re: What oil filter
Good points. At times we all expect things to be standard unless the poster specified otherwise, but Mike is a new owner, so yes, we need to confirm the engine and box fitted to the car.
Mike, could you post a photo of your engine and confirm if the gearbox is 4 or 5 speed; just to be certain.

Re: wire going to a sender unit that I should not have ?
And to round off, a 1965 car would have a 1098cc engine, so the head would have provision for a sender. The rest of your engine number might give a clue, such as 10MA... You can also look at the fornt left hand side of the block, below the side covers, to see that there is either a plate marked 1100...

Re: wire going to a sender unit that I should not have ?
The filter warning light used green/yellow. Green/brown is usually used for reversing lights (not standard on a Minor) so is likely to have been used by a previous owner to fit an add-on temperature gauge. The ender has been fitted in the correct place if you wanted to use it, or could be replaced b...

Re: What oil filter
NO! As I wrote previously, the Minor gearbox uses the same oil as the engine. Using EP90 will not do it any good. Only the back axle and steering rack use SAE90. If you have already used EP90 in the box, then drain, flush, and refill with the correct 20/50.

Re: Fitting an extra high level brake light.
You can use almost any commercially available high level LED brake light. Some stick to the glass, but might fall off and require new pads, or you can use or make a bracket to screw to the shelf. Wiring really simple: one wire to earth, one wire to the green/purple wire in the boot, either side. You...

Re: Newton Commercial individual check straps
Could you clarify which straps you mean? The only "check" straps that I can think of are those on van doors, and they are made of leather. You have mentioned Newton Commerical, so are you referring to seat webbing (elastic, not vinyl)? What hardware do you need?
