Thanks for the replies. The shoes seem fine on inspection and and are correctly set up - although another check won't be a bad thing!
I think I'll order some new shoes and see how that goes followed by new drums and report back once fitted.
Many thanks.

Another squealing brake
Our front brakes have some serious squealing coming from - I believe it to be both. I've read through all the past threads I could find and I'm sure that I've covered the bases. It started around 6 months ago and only squealed when braking at slow speeds. I took the drums off, cleaned out the dust a...

Re: Rear brakes - poor performance.
We had an almost identical issue with our back brakes about 3 years ago. Nothing seemed to work until one of the restorers at the rally had said they'd encountered similar problems with new cylinders. The idea they suggested was to bleed the brakes again only this time pump the brake pedal hard and ...

Re: Milometer makes you smile
Excellent! When ours turned to 50000 last year we noticed it hadn't quite managed to get all the way from 49999 to 50000 until about 10 miles later on the motorway. After a gentle tap on the glass it ticked to the 50000. It hasn't managed to get stuck on any of the next 6000 miles, so I'll wai...

Very interesting! Did you get to talk to the creators and did they give any specifications on the engines performance?

Re: yet another wasted journey !
It can be very frustrating - it's almost as though they forget you will actually be going to see the car in person. I've started asking for as many detailed photos as possible prior to making a trip and if they seem hesitant I usually pass unless it's very close by.

Re: 2017 Morris Prices
According to the magazine £3000 was what you should expect to pay for a fairly good example needing work. How much work I'm not sure and maybe this is why so many try to sell theirs at crazy prices. I guess a small amount of work to one with a lot of knowledge can be a huge amount to another with li...

2017 Morris Prices
Reading through one of the classic car sales magazines this week I was surprised at the prices they quoted at condition class 'a1' (very good condition - although not at concours condition) and Morris Minors as a whole. An example being 948cc/ 1098cc saloons at £8000 and travellers at £12000. Person...

1098cc gear changes
Hi all, What speeds do you tend to change to 2nd, 3rd and 4th assuming you are building speed to join a motorway/ dual carriageway and have a standard 1098 engine and gearbox? Without a rev counter I don't know where the revs are sitting and from what others say I think I may be changing fairly earl...

Absolutely a coil trophy for the best everyday car as he wasn't a fan of the concours. Maybe an MMOC t-shirt with 'It's never the coil' slogan and his name

Two other colours that are along the cream spectrum would be Sandy Beige and Bedouin. Both very nice colours and worth a google image search - although I'm not sure Sandy Beige was ever used on the traveller

CSE 717D - 2 door saloon
Hi everyone. I'm trying to find the above car for a current photo. According to the DVLA site it is currently SORN. The reason that I'd like to have a current photo of it is that it was owned by my great aunt who is turning 90 next month and I would love to have the photo on the front of her birthda...

Re: Canopy/tent/cover for those without a garage?
I had a close fitting cheapish outdoor car cover on one of my cars a couple years back which left a horrible haze on the paint that was very difficult to get out. It was after heavy rain followed by sunshine which I'm assuming meant either condensation had collected under the cover from the rapid ch...

Re: loss of power at 55-60mph
I've had similar symptoms a few times and every time it has been a fuel issue. The first time it was an in-line fuel filter being crap, so I removed it and all was fine with that car after. The second time the small needle in the lid of the float chamber had managed to become stuck not allowing petr...

Re: Broken down on route to nationals :(
To check if the lid (not sure if it has a more technical name??) of the float chamber for a blockage all we had to do was remove the fuel pipe, take off the 3 screws holding it to the chamber and blow through the tube connecting the pipe. You should be able to blow through without any problem - just...

Re: Broken down on route to nationals :(
The plugs look fine. When the pipe from the pump to the float chamber was disconnected it ticked away merrily. The lid of the float chamber seemed to be blocked so we changed that over from another car. We also blew the jets through. After a few miles near our friends it's driving fine, so we're goi...

Re: Broken down on route to nationals :(
Will give that a go now.
We've emptied the fuel camber, cleaned up inside it as well, which was pretty clean already. When we turn the key the fuel pump very slowly and weakly clicks once every second or two.
Could that possibly mean it's not delivering enough fuel?

Re: Broken down on route to nationals :(
One more thing: the vacuum advance pipe has a bit of tape around the connection at the carb end where there was a small crack. Although we've been running it like that for the last year with no problems, thought it's worth a mention.
