I don't think it would be any use to me - my ducks don't squeak, they quack.

Re: Clarke load leveller

Perhaps a ratchet strap between the two large links at the bottom to hold them parallel?

Re: Interesting thing of purpose

Never thought of that. Certainly, it'd have to be a drill with a fair bit of grunt and you'd have to fabricate some substantial sort of hook to clamp in the drill chuck that would connect with the winding eye on the jack. I might give it a go but I'd be a little nervous about burning out my drill. W...

Re: Crossply to radials - What size? (1954 4 door splitscreen)

Might it be prudent to seal over the rivet heads with a layer of Araldite before fitting?

Re: Interesting thing of purpose

I've got a pair of them, bought in the 1970's, but tend only to use them in the one set position as cranking them up with a car sitting on top of them is real donkey work and nearly as bad lowering the blighters when you've finished!

Re: Top Hat Seal

"...to maintain wheel cylinder sealing inside the drums" seems to suggest that, without a pressure-retention device, brake-fluid leakage will occur. I'm taking it that that has not been the experience of those of you already using a top-hat free system whilst still retaining the original d...

Well, all I can say is that it's common enough to have happened on my car too and, indeed, to the same shocker.

Top Hat Seal

I'm currently looking into the pros/cons whys and wherefores of fitting front discs and, having researched the topic in the archives it's become apparent that it's going to be necessary to remove the top-hat seal from the master cylinder to avoid the problem of the discs binding when the pedal is re...

Re: Bodges

Back in the sixties my mate Sam used to buy a car for next to nothing, run it for weeks or months (the better ones) then, when it conked out irretrievably, take it to the local scrappy who gave him either a fiver or a tenner for the remains. Unsurprisingly, he had some 'interesting' vehicles, severa...

Re: Bodges

My favourite bodge story appeared in a car magazine many years ago. A Reliant Regal van offered as a trade-in seemed to be riding a little low on the offside rear corner. Suspecting collapsed suspension, the garage guy had a closer look and it transpired that the thing had had a rear-end shunt at so...
