Re: What are all the switches?

Yes switch them on and see what happens, or trace wires. Ejector seat, nitrous injection, flux capacitor possibly.

Seriously they are probably for accessories that have come and gone.

Re: What are all the switches?

As standard on a later minor under the speedo from left to right: Screen washer Wipers Ignition Lights Choke The knob to the left of the steering wheel will say'push heater' and allows hot water to flow around the heater. The small silver switch on the heater is for the blower There is a small slide...

Re: Head gasket ideas

I have also been through the oil weeping from the rocker feed area between the head and block, amazing how much can get out through there when hot and blow backwards along the engine. I had a freshly skimmed block and a true head, decent gaskets, correctly fitted and torqued down etc etc. 2 gaskets ...

Re: Modern heater valves

That was indeed the valve I am using and have fitted inline, its been there 18 months and has been no further trouble. Works with the standard Minor control knob and cable. Enables you to just crack it open to slightly warm the heater, works well when the weather starts to cool down a little. There ...

For bleeding vacuum bleeder all the way, works an absolute treat with no messing. Really easy, whole car can be bled in half an hour, single handed with a perfect pedal.

Re: Lockheed front wheel cylinders

I can't comment on the spring lengths in the cylinders, I put new lockheed slave cylinders on a couple of years back and had no problems. Pretty meaningless as things can change quick in manufacture. I can't see either of those springs in the cylinders arguing against the return springs, there are t...

Is it the light or does that look an old break, may have been caused by careless use of a hammer trying to get the drum off at some stage.

Re: Solenoid starter problem

Is the red and white wire connected to the solenoid ?, I would then pull it off, find a piece of wire and touch that solenoid terminal to the live side of the solenoid termnals. That should energise it. Does the body of the solenoid have a sound earth ?. You can test the red and white wire from the ...

Re: Amber beacon

I have very similar and they are an excellent idea.

It's why I also have a high level brake light in the bottom of the rear window, not very period but the Minors lights are so low and small compared to todays machines, if it prevents someone rear ending me that's a good thing on my count.

Re: Wanted ,petrol pump points ,

Its a while since I had anything to do with my fuel pump, but they look like standard SU points to me, so the usual suppliers of parts. New ones tend to come with a Transorb, or at least the full pump rebuild kits do. Minimises the burning and pitting.

Re: No lights on dash. When turned key

If the sidelamps/headlamps dont work then there is a basic problem, either the earth between the battery and body - just because it is there and looks OK does not mean it actually is. Or as already said the powerfeed to the car is not on the battery side of the solenoid. I would not try the starter ...

Re: No lights on dash. When turned key

That's sounding likely the most likely cause, surprised the warning lights don't show some form of life when turning the key as there is usually enough of an earth for them, even if it is via the choke cable. Earthing the starter via the choke cable gets interesting though !!. The starter probably n...

Re: No lights on dash. When turned key

If pressing the solenoid does nothing then its an earth, I would start with the one between the battery and the body, as you get no warning lights or anything. If it were the one between the body and gearbox I would have expect the warning lights to have shown some life. Do you have a multimeter tha...

Re: What brand of Degreaser?

White spirit is of course really good, also good is the CleanPro heavy duty degreaser sold by Bookers - works a treat on the BBQ as well.

Isoflurane is good at getting oil, grease and ink out, it is a volatile Anaesthetic agent though so is also very effective at putting you to sleep !.

I have had one Accuspark module fail in 4 years, just died while going along as if I had turned the key. I just carry a spare baseplate with a new module fitted, should it happen again 2 screws and all is well again. My bright red Accuspark coil got sprayed satin black, it stood out like a sore thum...

Re: best place to put axle stands

When I did this I lowered the car onto my wheel ramps with a lump of floor joist across the top of them placed right in front of the forward rear spring hangers. Just need to make sure you are not going to trap any wiring, brake lines, fuel lines or damage anything. Need to be careful of the propsha...

Not really leaving much else now, it's only the tail housing of the box that has to come off, just the whole lot has to come out to get to it. Re: gear changing

The Minor as with most classic cars does have a long throw on the gear lever, and there is no biasing towards any position. Gear changing has to be a slower and more definite action, with a decisive move to the right going from 2nd to 3rd, I used to catch 1st when I 1st took up Minor driving. No rac...
