Re: Traveller Restoration

Thanks Mark, or should I say sorry? Thank you to David and Pete too. Pete, here is a link to one of many ads Mr Steering has on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-MORRIS-MINOR-REAL-BLACK-LEATHER-STEERING-WHEEL-COVER-RED-STITCH-1948-71-/261357005653?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item...

Re: Traveller Restoration

The seatbelts are genuine new old stock and I got them off eBay a few years ago. Can't remember exactly, but they must have been a good price or I would not have bought them. I think they would probably be well over £100 each now. You are right about the 2,500 hours Roger! I believe if I were to lis...

Re: Traveller Restoration

Yes the wheels are 4.5" van wheels. I got them from ESM, but they had to be shot blasted and repainted as the paint as supplied is very poor (and didn't match the body). They call them "B stock", as non-seconds are not available, but I seriously doubt that their existing supplier can ...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

To be honest it is not possible to see if the welds are good or not from that picture and after grinding. But the repair looks quite nice and neat and so long as it is solid with good weld penetration it should be fine. That linked video is not so applicable to welding thin sheet. I recommend you go...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

There two box sections each side that run the length of the car like a chassis and three box sections that run across together with the A and B pillars and the screen surrounds. The front chassis legs and front box section under the radiator have numerous holes where wax can be sprayed inside as wel...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

Yes, seam sealer after primer. Chassis black is good, but it is not resistant to petrol. Modern Hammerite has had all the nasty stuff taken out and as a consequence is pretty crap. Waxoyl is an excellent product if used correctly. If you dislike it in particular you can use any one of a number of Di...

Re: The heart is back in the Beast!

I mean it is much easier to fit the gearbox out of the car before fitting the engine and then putting them in as one unit.

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

October is a hard target, but possible with help. You will need to outsource as much as you can afford. Bodywork prior to painting is the most specialised and time consuming work (once the welding is done). Spraying is fairly quick, if done professionally. It all depends how important the quality of...

Re: Moggy 1000 Coupe restoration

I would recommend putting primer on that as you go otherwise you will have surface rust that will play havoc with the paint and you will have to do it all again. Generally with typical UK humidity you should try and paint the surface within an hour of stripping. The surface oxidisation is usually no...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

The factory painted the engine complete after assembly, in addition to my picture the manifold and dynamo would also have been fitted before painting. The only bits that were masked were the plates on the rocker cover. The fan and pulley were painted yellow for safety. Many people, even concours own...

Re: 1962 Morris restored and customized ++++++

Hey John, lighten up! As I said it's all relative. Compared to modern cars all those things are absolutely true, but there would be something wrong if they weren't , considering the design is from six or seven decades ago! Anyone choosing to drive a Morris Minor for its speed, economy, quiet or hand...
