Re: Rear Brakes

The brake return springs are correct for the car/axle. It appears that the behive springs were not fitted to these particular brakes as they do not appear in the wksp man brake section for this particular car/axle, they only appears in the brake section for the later axle. If there is no behive spri...

Re: suspension springs corrosion

If the corrosion is between the leaves there is not much you can do except replace them. It is not advisable to oil worn leaf springs as the ends of the leaf have most likely worn into the underside of the leaf above. The lubricated spring will flex more and the end of the spring leaf could then hit...

Re: snail cam mask

If it is any consolation they do break even when fitted correctly.
The later snail cams and adjusters were beefed up with thicker metal for the carrier (Pt No: AAA421) and a larger dia pin on the snail cam (Pt No: AAA423) all done to help alleviate the breakage problem.

Re: timing chain - tinkling

dudload Many thanks for the feed back. From your description I am certain that the seal has been fitted correctly i.e. solid face of the seal forward into the timing cover oil seal recess. It should be borne in mind though that there are two pre 'A' Plus' timing chain covers fitted to the 'A' Series...

firedrake
Many thanks for the reply.
Now to be really pedantic your support bracket appears to facing the wrong way - the feet should point outwards so as to get the support as close to the air cleaner body as possible.
Possibly that is why it looks to be non standard.

Re: Air cleaner doesn't fit

Unfortunately for the OP not having the adapters is an issue as the air filter is not supported by the O/S head studs/adapters and the air cleaner could come loose as it is and fall into the engine bay. It is most important that the air cleaner is supported as designed. Correctly mounted there is ab...

Re: Air cleaner doesn't fit

There should be two adapters Pt No: ACH 8516 under the two air cleaner steady/support stays which are above the dip stick Looking at your photo they appear to be missing or not utilised. They are items No: 27 in the parts illustration below. Later adapters had a female bottom and male top and was fi...

Re: Clutch pedal not returning fully

There are two clutch pedal return springs fitted to the 'A' Series Minor. The 948cc clutch pedal return spring is Pt No: 1G 5999 - the 1098cc clutch pedal return spring is Pt No: AAA531. There is also a fork spring quoted on the MOSS spares list Pt No: AAA1628. In the BMC parts list there is only on...

Re: timing chain - tinkling

Is the leak from the gasket or the seal? Before fitting the gasket should be smeared with general purpose grease. That helps with sealing and keeps the gasket supple for much longer. Did you centralise the timing cover on the crankshaft pulley? The timing chain cover should be loosely fitted - the p...

Re: Clutch pedal not returning fully

Adjust the linkage to take out any slack but still retain the 3/4" free play.
Removing the slack will allow the return spring to pull the pedal up against the underside of the floor.
If doing the above does not work replace the return spring Pt No: 1G5999 (MOSS).

Re: Fan-Belt too large

As regards the gearbox steady wire - as it was a retrospective fitment BMC used the existing 1/4" UNF bolts which from experience are totally inadequate. When replacing the wire I always recommend that the bolts are increased to 5/16" UNC. The fine thread of the 1/4" bolts is not man ...

Re: Fan-Belt too large

It is quite remiss of MOSS to give the wrong fan belt and no alternatives in their parts listing for the Minor. As regards the colour of the fan blades - have seen red and yellow blades so I personally would not be too worried about either colour. The twin blades BMC Pt No: 2A241 were as you say fit...

Re: Fan-Belt too large

firedrake I note that the MOSS site listing you have quoted above is for a MGB which appears to have the same drive belt as the Minor. The MOSS parts list for the Minor does not list or offer the shorter belt at 825mm so even more confusion. http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/morris/minor/co...

Re: Fan-Belt too large

Thanks for the reply.
Looking at the BMC parts list I discover that there were at least four different (narrow) pulleys fitted to the Minor and one wide pulley.
So it is not as clear cut as could be first imagined.

Re: Fan-Belt too large

Thank you for the information. If the adjuster is fitted the wrong way round it can foul so as not to allow the dynamo to reach its full adjustment. The single hole of the adjuster bar should be attached to the front face of the dynamo front plate and the slot fitted over the adjustment pillar which...

Re: Fan-Belt too large

The correct fan belt for your car is MOSS Pt No: GCB10900. Have MOSS supplied you with that fan belt? A silly question but have you tried the adjustment? Have you got the adjustment bar the right way round? Is the dynamo fouling so that the dynamo is unable to reach its full adjustment? A photo of t...

Re: Midget 1275, Ford Type 9 5 speed, concentric clutch slave

When fitting the spigot bush to the 1275cc crankshaft the best solution is for the rear end of the crankshaft to be counter bored and a spigot bush carrier and bush or bearing installed. The fitment of the spigot bush carrier to the flywheel is the easy option as there is no requirement to have to c...
