Re: Fancy something a bit different?
I do wonder if those needing to do hundreds of miles every day are the exception, I am definitely an exception, I haven't done anything out of the ordinary and from Sunday evening to this evening (i.e. about 48hrs I will have done 290 miles). By the time I have done my running around at the weekend...

It means he won't spend money on improving the engine and not get the benefit he wants ;)

Re: Wild Goose hissing sound solved
I had a focus that seized the alternator - I think it got a lot of water in it and then froze - cracking the casing.
I couldn't work out what was going on until I tow started it and plumes of smoke came off the auxillary belt! Fortunately it was an easy fix with an alternator from my spares stock

Re: 1275 performance
As Phil says, either find and fit a taller diff ratio, or a 5 speed gearbox to drop the revs at the cruising speed.
Any engine improvements will get you there faster, but it will be just as revvy at speed

Re: Fancy something a bit different?
Personally - its not unusual for me to do 500 miles in a day - so that's where my range capability wants to be. I work away from home, and there is no EV charging capability either at work, or at diggs (a small marina) although a petrol station nearby is being set up with Polar chargers. Right now t...

Yes, I have one of the very early 1275 sprites...
But, annoyingly, it had a gold seal engine fitted, so most of those goodies are missing

Re: Rebuilt 1275-running a bit "out of sorts"
The 23D4 does not have a vacuum advance but the mechanical advance compensates for the lack of vacuum advance. The 23D4 distributer was fitted to the 1275cc Cooper S. I ran a 23D4 distributor for many years with a similar engine spec to the OPs and never had a problem. It was also fitted to the VER...

Re: 17 amp cable for heated rear screen?
The fuse is to protect the cable rather than the device... but nothing wrong with using a 10A one. Its just not got enough "head room". Remember the current will vary with temperature - not just of the screen but at ambient before its turned on! You could stick a 10A in, and if it blows ch...

Re: 17 amp cable for heated rear screen?
Oh yes, absolutely - but it gives an idea of the order of magnitude.
If he calculates a 1A fuse or a 100A fuse is needed, its probably an error ;)

Re: 17 amp cable for heated rear screen?
Do you already have it? Measure the resistance... Use V= IR to give the current it will take Current = Volts (I would use 14.6 as a maximum) divided by Resistance. Then make sure you have a lot of head room on the cable size, and the fuse is rated at more than calculated, and less than the cable is ...
