Re: Upper trunnion grease nipple
I think some have an adjuster on the nozzle that controls the 'clamping force' of the springs. Unfortunately, depending on whether your trunnions have been replaced, they could be a different thread/size from the originals. I think reproduction top trunnions tend to use a much smaller nipple/drillin...

Re: Exhaust smoking
Any chance when you removed the head a lot of oil was dumped into the cylinders?
I'd consider taking it for a good hard run somewhere, maybe at night if it bothers you, and see what happens afterwards.

Re: Do the wheels still fall off??
I was once told by an old mechanic that trunnions tend to pop with less weight acting on them. When turning a corner fast you load each trunnion, as in pulling the trunnion tighter to the swivel pin and any thread left in the swivel/trunnion itself. When 'nursing' the wheel at low speed/stationary t...

Re: Removing back brake cylinders.
Even if the cylinders are a bit proud, just pulling the halfshaft 1/2 inch or so will be enough to gain enough room, which by all accounts is far easier than pulling the hub!

Nope, amber light on the base is correct for a '59.
Think it was 1960 they started with the green light type.

They are spring loaded also. Sometimes pulling gently at the central cable releases the pressure on the bulb which helps it unscrew.

Re: Fly wheel
The 948 and 1098 flywheel are different (but the complete setup is interchangeable).
If memory serves me correctly, the 948 flywheel is noticeably smaller than the 1098 flywheel.

Re: New Wiring Loom for Alternator, blowing main fuse
Try taking both lines out of the fusebox (ie your two purple wires and then connecting one at a time and seeing which one blows. From there you at least know which side of the circuit is blowing. The purples are for horn and interior light, so it's possible one of the 4 way connectors in the dashboa...

Re: Best way to remove wheel studs?.
Are you sure it's the thread on the stud that's gone and not the thread on the wheel nut? They tend to strip first, and it won't like being whacked on the stud either.
Easy enough to test another nut on the suspect stud first.

Re: Marina 1.3 oil pressure take off
Is there scope perhaps to screw the T piece into the back of the oil pressure gauge, then fit the sender to the T piece and the pipe to the adapter and into the relevant port? Have I missed something obvious there? (Which wouldn't be the first time :D). Interested as I have a Marina 1275 to fit to m...

You can tell it's a later shell as where the 'elephant's trunk' fresh air intake passes through the dash it has a raised section to accommodate the intake, unless the bulkhead has been changed, it's a a post 63.

As an aside, I think you'll find the L594 lamps were also used as the lights on top of a Dalek in the old days. Sourced from series Land Rovers I believe
