Re: strange indicator problem
Assuming it is similar to the MGB switch , there are 5 wires. Purple is the feed in for the hazard relay (which is probably built in to your switch) There should be a green/white which goes to your ns indicator lamps, a green/red to your os indicator lamps. The other two wires should be green and t...

Re: strange indicator problem
Sounds similar to an MGB common problem. The hazard switch, when switched on, actually 'breaks' the circuit for the indicator feed, and when switched off 'makes' the circuit again. Hence, switching the hazards on and off a few times can restore the indicators to working order. Go back and get them t...

Re: Thermostat housing issue
As Phil said.
I had the same on mine. I sealed the stud threads in the head with Hylomar blue. It is a gasket sealant but it worked for me.

I used this undercoat a couple of years ago on my daily driver and no rust has come through despite being out in all weathers

Open the bonnet and have a look with the engine running in complete darkness and see if there are any stray sparks anywhere.

Re: Brakes
If the pedal is firm on second application then it is probably adjustment. Did you slacken off the handbrake before adjusting the rears? Try adjusting all the drums so they are stuck solid and then see if the excess pedal travel disappears?

Why have you posted this is "off topic"? He is a Moggie after all!
I have found dry potting compost is useful to teach older cats how to use a tray. then when he gets the hang of it mix it 50/50 with litter.

Re: No power to ignition intermittently
Hi Catherine, when you say no power to ignition do you mean no ignition lights on the dash? When you fiddled with the wires and you could hear the power come back on, what exactly could you hear? Was it the pump ticking? If so it does sound like you have a bad connection somewhere around the area yo...

Re: Engine oil in gearbox
I think the forces in a Landy gearbox are probably a lot higher than in a Minor gearbox.
What surprised me when I first heard many years ago is the Mini gearbox running in the same oil as the engine.

I doubt it would affect the braking enough to either notice or to fail an MOT, especially on the rear.

Open the bonnet in the dark while the engine is running and see if you can see any stray sparking around the coil, dizzy, leads or plugs.

No, that's it, just the gearbox one. I put one on the engine anyway (belt and braces) as I had intermittent starting problems with my MG and a second earth strap cured it.

No idea, mine was off the road 25 years and when I put a battery on her I had no ignition power but had horn and interior lights if I remember correctly.Sweeny wrote:Hi berro,
I will check tomorrow and report back, out of curiosity what could lead to that happening?

Re: Loss of electrical power
Long shot but I had something similar when I recommission mine years ago.
Remove the regulator and check the metal straps on the back.
One of mine had melted stopping power getting to the ignition switch.

Re: Fuel consumption?
£15 is about 3 gallons, so 127 miles is about right, but 52 is not. First check tyre pressures and make sure your brakes are not binding. Take it for a run for 2-3 miles and see if the brakes feel hot when you touch the wheels.

Try cleaning the battery lead terminals and earth terminals to the body, not forgetting the earth strap on the gearbox. Also, are you using fresh fuel? Old fuel will not work well.

Nobody mentioned the rubber brake hoses! They will be perished as well as anything else rubber, including tyres, hoses, bushes, etc.
