Re: New Clutch, can't get a gear
I would look at the clutch linkage.
I think you are saying that the clutch doesn't bite until the pedal is near to the top. If you carefully try to engage the gear while slowly pushing the pedal down is there a point before the pedal reaches the floor where the gear will engage?

Re: Circular heater
There is a deluxe version which case a case around it. It connects to a hole in the floor which enables air from the outside to come through the heater.

Re: Uneven tyre wear - wheel bearings?
If the bearing is loose you may be able to correct it by tightening up the nut that holds it it place. If the bearing is worn you should be able to detect it by spinning the wheel round. While the car is jacked up have a look at the tie rods which should both have the same length of thread exposed. ...

Re: Loud gearbox knocking
I agree about the missing spigot bush.
There should be a rubber cover over a hole on the left hand side underneath. I think that if you take it off and shine a light in you may be able to see if anything is moving about although you cannot see the spigot itself.
(I hope this makes sense. )

Silicon brake fluid can cause the rubber seals in the master cylinder to perish after a while.

As far as I remember you have to take the gearbox out in order to remove the shaft.

Re: Mainshaft removal
I used a selection of flat bladed screwdrivers. I put one in the gap in the split ring to widen it until a space emerges between the ring and the bearing case. I put the blade of a small screwdriver in this space and then work it round until I get to an end of the ring. This enables me to get that e...

Re: Mainshaft removal
The above assumes you have already removed all the springs and plungers and selector forks. Somewhere in that third motion shaft assembly are a lot of springs and plungers which will fly all over the place if you are not careful. Main problems are likely to be: Worn lay shaft and lay shaft bearings ...

Re: Mainshaft removal
Remove the front bearing cover. Pull the lay shaft out from the front (I attach a mole wrench and twist and pull. The lay gear should drop down a little bit. ) Withdraw the third motion shaft from the back. (In practice I use a long steel chisel and knock it out from the inside. This usually takes c...

Re: Self stirring left and right
IMHO the tracking needs adjusting.
It the car wanders to one side or the other the front wheels are toeing out too much.
If the car keeps to a straight path without adjusting the steering wheel the wheels are toeing in too much.

You don't have to turn the ignition key to turn the engine over.
You can also press the button on the underside of the starter solenoid.

The welding and the chassis all look a bit odd to me too. I would like to see some more pictures of the crossmember.
