Re: Clutch advice

Clutches can fail in different ways, but if I'm reading correctly, you're getting lots of clutch slip, so the engine is revving but the car is not moving in proportion, if at all? Does this apply equally in all gears? If you look under the car, is the propshaft turning and does it increase in speed ...

Re: Replacement Demister hose (late heater)

The pipes used at the end of production were all plastic, no wire. Try https://www.hellermanntyton.co.uk/competences/corrugated-tubing. Scroll down until you find the light weight thin wall tubing. No promises, but it might just do the job for you. Also the hoses for a Mini may fit: https://www.mini...

Re: Pm issues

This is because of the inactivity timeout for security. Although you are typing in the browser, you are not transmitting data to the board until you click the <submit> button. Two solutions: a) If on a private/personal device in a secure setting, that is NOT a public or multi-user device; then when ...

Chris, PMs generally working. Can you try clearing your browser cache. If that doesn;t work, then PM/email details of the senders to me and I'll see if I can find anything odd.

Call the MMOC office in Derby and ask if they have a record of the car. If yes, then they can pass your details to the owner.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start

I think that we have exhausted the original question, and possibly a few others as well, so it really is time to close this topic; and I will lock it. Any objections, feel free to PM me. Let's hope that we hear more of Elaine, Chloe and the car, and that all reports are good.

Re: Number plate light

If you did connect the wires the wrong way round at first then the fuse (if fitted) would have blown, meaning that the second attempt still won't work. Look below the voltage regulator for an inline fuse holder with red wires. Check and if necessary replace the fuse. NB 5 amp, not the 35 amp from th...

Re: VIN numbers - Series II

Are you relying on the plate on the bulkhead for the VIN, or have you found the number stamped into the shell? It could be that someone has swapped the plate from one car to another. No idea why, but these things do happen; in which case, your description could be correct and so could BMIHT. Hopeful...

Re: 2speed switch

What year is the car - later carts had "flick" or toggle switches, and the switch for the 2-speed kit matches those. If you have the earlier pull on switches then that will be more difficult. You would have to get the kit and use a meter to work out which terminals were connected for which...

Re: 2speed switch

You need a 2-speed wiper motor. Unlike typical heater motors that can be switched in series with an external resistor to vary the speed, wiper motors have two sets of internal windings. There are 2-speed wiper kits available that come with the motor, switch and matching wiring harness.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start

Yes, the choke does operate the fast idle cam to slightly open the butterfly, but the description:
when the knob is pulled out fully the butterfly closes properly so the mechanic says we’ll actually get full choke
does not reflect what happens. The mystery deepens.

That's a very good point. Elaine, can you please post a photo of your engine bay. It is possible that the cart has a none standard carb.

Wings for a Traveller and a saloon are not interchangeable. Also, saloon wings varied between early and late cars, so Lane9 needs to check the year of his/her car when purchasing replcement parts.

Re: dual circuit brakes

I understand the desire for dual circuit - I once had a single circuit Mini where one of the link/transfer pipes on the front wheel failed resulting in first a loss of pressure and then loss of fluid. I drove home carefully using the handbrake, but it would have been better with the other circuit st...

Re: Door Alignment

As the top of the door does not appear to be out, I fear that it will be more complicated than just the striker plate. Another reason for the door to stick out could be incorrect sill alignment and/or fitment of the kick plate (cover plate), or an excessively thick draught excluder. Worst case is po...

In terms of sympathetic modifications without making a modern car... Check the car thoroughly for the structure and repair/replace as necessary. Fit poly bushes instead of rubber for all suspension. For the colder climates, use an uprated heater and heated front and rear screens - these are a vital ...
