measuring the shocks on the bench, height to the bottom of the top pin hole
original 6.3cm
one of the replacements 6.5cm
the other - 7cm
the arm on that one is clearly a different casting and will hit the edge of the window in the inner wing

early armstrong front shocks
Hi guys Im replacing my front shocks with recon items, and have found they are probably the originals to the car with 1951 date stamps. They have a different body and drain hole than the ones i have recieved. I dont have a problem with fitting the newer ones (the rear shocks had already been changed...

Re: MM/Srs2 speedo image
Hi Rob, you might have this sorted out already, but here is mine its not the original, I can dig that out in a couple of weeks if needed, but its the exact same font and layout, just with a trip meter let me know if its suitable, its a bit of a tight squeeze for the camera with the steering column i...

Re: Some ideas and help please...
Worked well when new, 50 years later may be a different story, but thats another story. The best thing you can do for your wiring and headlamp output is to make sure the wiring in in good condition, the connections are tight, and the earths are good. Take the headlamp switch out and use some cleaner...

Re: Some ideas and help please...
Luckily there are not many wires in a minor to begin with. Definitely worth putting in headlamp relays, especially as it sounds like it's all apart already, and it's a small cost. Any generic wiring diagram will be suitable to go from. I have a second small Lucas fuse box that I have wired into the ...

Re: Cracked banjo wheel
If you search for VW steering wheel restoration you will find a lot of info on how they do it. You can fill cracks with a colour matched plastic (search the wardrobe for a coathanger)

Re: Need some help on Full Steel Traveller from South America
Very nice bodywork, I think I saw only 2 morris minors in all of the Americas, one being a clapped out traveller in LA. Mostly old Renaults and a few old jeeps in Patagonia, along with a split screen VW single cab next to a shack in Peru, the farmer could probably retire wealthy if he sold that!. If...

Re: lets see your heaters
The Tudor one I have and the basic Smith's junior both have bolts on the back for the bulkhead. Though the Smith's one with the doors came with a bracket there which bolts to the floor. It was in a minor pickup. Could you measure the depth of the bracket which joins the heater to the dash. I'm wonde...

Re: lets see your heaters
Cheers Rob The manual shows the heater attached to the parcel tray. But in order for that to happen with the short tray it would need to be on an angle or spaced further back. Which may not be possible with the deeper beehive Smith's. There's a full parts list for a heater conversion in the manual b...

Re: Ford 100e Aquaplane manifold
For anyone wanting some further proof or confirmation about using ford 100e or 93e components on their sidevalve minor here is a 93E inlet/exhaust gasket sitting on a sidevalve minor flange http://i.imgur.com/ydkTgaj.jpg?1 obviously the ford uses round inlets and the minor uses square, I filed these...

Re: MM exhaust system
How do you find the inlet manifold? I imagine it might benefit with preheating from the exhaust due to the length and bends
Here is a ford 93E gasket over a SMM flange.

you would hope the bottom pipe is cold, as this is water that has been cooled by the radiator flowing back into the engine

Re: Distributor curves.
What I have been doing recently is setting the timing at high idle, about 2000rpm, this lets a bit of advance in already. you are right with needing it expecially on a sidevalve due to the flow the fuel mixture takes. Fortunately the SMM head is about as advanced as sidevalve heads go so theres no n...

Re: Alta engine differences
THat depends on what you are interested in
The alta OHV head produces a lot more power and is more efficient by design than the sidevalve
it will also stick out a bit if you like showing off to other sidevalve owners due to the rarity.
if you don't like it, send it my way
