Re: Driving test in a Morris Minor.

I took my full test in my 51 minor

she wanst impressed that the passenger seat couldn't slide back, and I made sure to mention that I knew what the speed limit was, but I just couldn't go that fast.
At the end she said most people leave these old girls at home when they take their test

Boot latch spring?

Hi everyone.
At the moment to close the boot on my 51 smm 4 door the handle needs to be twisted back closed. Am I missing a spring or does the handle not self return?

I have had it in storage for a while and cant remember :-?

Re: Fitting MM windscreen.

you can shape 2 pieces of Perspex tot he screen chrome profile, then stick them in the jaws of some locking pliers. now you ca reshape them perfectly. I cant find the photos right now, but I used a couple of ratchet straps to hold the screens in place over night to let the rubber settle. 5 years on,...

Re: Twin SU's

I'm back, after 15 months of cycling and 30000km, and back into the minor I had the car running on my modified aquaplane manifold (twin 1 1/4") before I left. That's back in storage. I did however come across this set up recently, so will be using these http://i.imgur.com/fgglD0r.jpg http://i.i...

Re: Distributor curves.

I'm currently using the mini cooper one from accuspark (no vac) however I came across this article a while ago about tuning your distributor. So you get the correct advance for your engine. It is a very good read http://www.firstfives.org/faq/timing/timing_for_modified_engines.PDF As for not being a...

Re: valve and spring dimensions

Thanks for that a quick seach tells me that finding a spring weak enough to not be 5-10 times stronger than the originals may be the hardest part. But perhaps this wont be a problem, the originals are pretty much pudding it seems, and i cant think of any reason a "modern" spring pressure w...

Re: valve and spring dimensions

Cheers. I read that the double valve springs that were available for the 100e had a tendancy to ahift and not sit right. Due to the collet arangement. I assume it would be similar for a minor. Perhaps not. But will go.the simple route and stick with single springs. Will post any part numbers i come ...

Re: Knocking/tapping in 918 side valve

Hi you may want to try a long screwdriver up to.the engine and the other end to.your ear to help.locate the sound a few guesses could be something fallen into a cylinder - perhaps the tip off a spark plug valve bounce hitting the head piston slap loose distributor body (the actual body of mine came ...

valve and spring dimensions

Hi guys wondering if someone has a few spare valve springs laying around and could measure them for me. The manual lists the expected pressures but no mention of diameter or uncompressed/compressed hight would like to order some uprated replacements to be waiting for when i get back home also, the s...

My 51 is dark brown have come across the nickle plated ones as well (bizzarely fitted to a very early series 2, perhaps it was left over parts being used) I believe they switched to brown during a nickle shortage (imagine tge same time the grill changed to a plain pressed one piece) i am surprised t...

Export AC oilbath airfilter have one on my nz car edit: scratch that i just realised your picture didnt load on my phone. Looks like a pressed steel unit to fit a standard filter to twin carbs? Re: Ford 100e Aquaplane manifold

might leave that to the archbishop of canterbury's one. The only issue would be high altitude and steep hills I drove my 1948 commer superpoise over to put in storage as well, the same trip took 2 days at 30mph. I did take some gravel back roads however, its great on those. Have the minor up on stan...

Re: Morris 8 sidevalve engine

There are a few differences. Do you know the engine type? (UB? USHM? 2, 3?) Morris 8's had a different piston (less rings and a slightly lower compression) Depending on the engine type it may not have an oil filter Depending on the engine type it may have a different head (affects dynamo mounting an...

All legal now, just needed 2 new tyres on the rear. Had to go from my ancient 155/80/14 to 165/60/14 due to availability. Will have a set of original wheels widened, or rather the centres knocked out and put in something else, so next time i should have more options. Went for a long drive (high comp...

Re: Distributor overhaul

Just been searching for info on the mm distributors.
It looks like the body of mine has come loose from the shaft as well! (can rock the bowl of the distributor slightly when the shaft is clamped)

How did you go about sticking it back together? I assume it is pressed in place
