Re: No MOT
Brilliant. Thanks for that. We came back to the UK from France last year. In France the MOT for classic cars was every five years. You can pretty much sum up the situation here as being that government research found that generally: A - Classics made up a very small percentage of the cars on the ro...

Re: Re-Registering a MM with the DVLA
Hello I'm sorry for how your call was responded to, the Regional branches have their details publicly published and whomever you contacted should have known that. However, a local branch can't help with DVLA enquiries, it has to be done via the Club Head Office in Derbyshire. Email them on info@mmoc...

Re: Identifying a diff?
As Phil says, right up on the top. It's stamped on there but not necessarily the clearest of markings. Took me a bit of cleaning and several phone photos to get one at the right angle to read. Eventually confirmed it as an 8/43. As I recall, it's on the top surface just above where the Brake Pipe ju...

Yes. Probably....
Simply because on a '59 they are not factory fit, so are an aftermarket addition.
Often, an aftermarket single filament lamp holder only has a supply connection and earth is via the body fixing.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi
Back On Topic Time I'm just advising that the Hardi is not a direct replacement for 'Fit, Form and Function'. It delivers almost twice the pressure of the SU, so the Carb float has more work to do in shutting off the fuel flow. I'm just pointing out that fitting a Hardi may reveal other issues due t...

without considering what effect it will have on the Gearbox and Differential. Anyone would think you were expecting a reply mentioning those things if you hadn't got in with that first  Just trying to give a comparable example of how the extra pressure has to be considered, because not...

Some people seem to be misunderstanding my intent in posting this and taking it along the lines of a 'Which is Better?' discussion. I'm just advising that the Hardi is not a direct replacement for 'Fit, Form and Function'. It delivers almost twice the pressure of the SU, so the Carb float has more w...

Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi
Due to some recent facebook posts about Carbs flooding after fitting a Hardi Pump, I thought I'd look at some Specifications. Retailers are always plugging the Hardi as a 'like-for-like replacement, but I wondered what the evidence was. Did the facts support that??? SU Electric Fuel Pump Max Pressur...

Re: ELECTRICS
I have no rear light/indicators, Rear lights are on the small inline fuse, as are the Panel Lights in the Speedo, are they working? Indicators are fused. the wipers have packed in, the indicator stalk doesn't flash or operate and the warning lights in the speedo don't work. That's all pretty much o...

Re: TORCH!!
Not really relevant to the question about what to recommend now, but I used to have one of these that I brought in the USA around 2008/9. Unfortunately It's defunct now after some battery leakage. I still have 2 remaining sections that work, just serving as separate torches. They no longer make it, ...

I GOT ONE OF THOSE!!!! Can you tell, Mick, about the LED conversion and where to get it? Regards from MikeN. Nothing special, Fleabay has plenty of places offering LED replacement lamps to fit torches. Just look up the type you need, typically E10 for screw in lamp and the ones with no thread, but ...

Re: Black Speedometer Sender Ohms Range
I remembered this coming up before, sort of... https://board.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=73913 The early one is the range you've been quoted. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the later style Smiths Sender is 240 Ohms empty and 20 Ohms full, in the opposite sense to the early ones. Holden for ...

Re: 5-30 synthetic oil
There's some good answers here already. I'm of the opinion that some of your assumptions are flawed; for example your observations about differences the oil recommendations between the AKD530 issue 2 and Issue 14, probably some 20+ years apart are easily explained. When the Minor first arrived in 19...

Re: Strange Pump arrangment....
The pipework simply joins the two inlet connections and the two outlet connections from the two individual SU pumps. The " modern " connectors you've marked , would take the " supply" from the fuel tank and "deliver" to the carburettors. Bob No it doesn't. The pumps ar...

Re: Dynamo/Starter Motor Identification (are these Minor parts?).
It's a pity there's not in better focus, can't make out much of anything... Starter for all Minor as far as I'm aware is a Lucas M35G, but the M35J is essentially the same Starter, just a change of end plate design as far as I'm aware. I think the J was standard in 1275cc engines such cars as MGs. D...

You might find this discussion from 2013 informative: https://board.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=50506 That's a good read, thanks. I wonder if sticking with the original 948 diff would be a bad thing to do. Don't ask me that one. I brought my car (SII) believing it to be fitted with a 948, the 803 g...

Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?
I've got a Stick Welder which I've used to do simple jobs like replace broken brackets on Exhausts, or fix gaps on Silencers. The cost of the machine has been recovered just by those simple jobs which don't requite any particular skill. A rear box for my Ford Kuga is around £180+. I brought a £99 We...

Re: Wipers
The OP stated "I have fitted a new wiper new wiper motor wheelboxes and wire. and wire.". If it really is a new motor then it shouldn't be full of hardened grease. It sounds like a major refurbishment of the system, which means disassembly and reassembly of all components, so there is a r...
