Re: Speedometer fault

Thanks for the replies, gents. Sorry if I have made a breach of etiquette. 2nd posting seemed, with hindsight, to be a more appropriate site. After running with yet more "spare" speedos giving no apparent solution to the problem, I think I've noticed that after an increasing period of sens...

Speedometer fault

After going over a bump in the road my speedometer stopped working. I fitted a new cable. No difference. I ran the cable with an electric drill and the speedo worked perfectly at all speeds.I replaced the drive pin and oil seal in the gearbox. No difference. I ran two other spare speedos on the elect...

speedometer malfunction

any advice welcome: after a very gentle bump (in the road and from the front of the car) the speedo ceased to work. Inspection showed the cable to be too long, coiled once under the sump and the outer sheath had been worn through. I obtained and fitted a new cable. No difference. I connected an elec...

Re: temperature gauge

Thanks for the reply. I was caugtht out by a failed head to block hose, and then by a failed water pump both whilst touring France in a car that had seen little use for several years.Mea culpa!I think I will go with the electric option. Thanks again.

temperature gauge

Having suffered some dramatic overheating in the past, and having just realised that the sensor on my electric cooling fan isn't working, I wondered how to go about fitting the above. Is there an electronic version, or does it require a capillary tube? If the latter, where would the sensor go? I hav...

Re: how to flush a 1275 marina engine

Thanks philthehill for that comprehensive reply. With regard to bmcecosse's 'supplementaries', there wasn't a history of overheating but travelling through France recently a small leak in the cooling system, whilst on a fast dual carriageway, led to a rather dramatic boiling 'event'. No amount of ca...

how to flush a 1275 marina engine

Sorry if this subject has been raised before: as I have fitted a new cylinder head and a new radiator, I have been advised to flush the engine block. How is this done, please.

Re: excessive oil use

Thanks for the above replies.
I have just done the rev-up with the oil filler cap off test. No smoke from the oil filler but smoke from the carburettor side of the engine-possibly from the badly sealed exhaust/manifold connection. I will look at the breathing arrangements tomorrow.

excessive oil use

My 1275 engine has compressions of 150 on all cylinders, there is no sign of foam inside the oil filler cap and no sign of water in the oil. Oil does seem to be being forced out between the head and the block (the dipstick is always spattered even after only a few minutes use), so I intend to replac...

marina exhaust for a minor

I've recently bought a Minor fitted with a 1275 Marina engine and have been unable to get the exhaust to mate to the manifold without leaks and wobbles. This exhaust now needs replacing. Is it possible to buy a down-pipe that mates to the Marina manifold and fits through the hole in the bulk-head, a...

Re: advance/retard pipe

Thanks all. My car certainly doesn't rumble from the bottom-but neither could it remove rice pudding skin with any alacrity! I had hoped that by engaging the A/R it would be a little more lively. I think we will try and obtain an appropriate diagonal spacer and see whether connecting the A/R does of...

Re: advance/retard pipe

Right, thanks for the reply. As my car is currently away at the local mending emporium, I will have to go over and check those points. My Midget-engined traveller has a pipe coming out of the carb body near the slow-running adjustment screw, and I notice that the other carb has an identical mark in ...

I've just bought an Accuspark unit, which comes complete with A/R diaphragm. Only now have I realised that my old distributor did not have this A/R thing connected and that there seems nowhere on the carb for a take-off. Can anyone please tell me how to rectify this....must the carb be drilled somew...

electronic ignition for 1275 engine

Just collected my 'new' Minor with a Marina 1275 engine. Can anyone tell me will the Accuspark A45D electronic gadget
be OK for this engine?
Thanks, Richard.

Electronic Ignition

My car has a standard Marina 1275 engine, which has been recently tuned by a professional engine tuner, who used to work on Minis, which he also raced. He tuned the Minor in his workshop, without a rolling road and without road-testing it. He pronounced the engine as very sweet and 'spot on'. On a t...
