Re: Car not starting well, seems to be miss firing

I would also check the rear of the head for correct cooling and water flow around the block. Overheating may have caused the problem.

Re: Temperature gauge

Having fitted a capillary temp gauge on a 948 I would recommend fitting the sender with the electrical connections. I found the readings less accurate when compared to other people I spoke to who had fitted an electrical type sender. Having said that, it is good to know the temp of the engine but as...

Re: advice on polish

After previously being sceptical about using a clay bar on any car I decided to try it on my modern car first and done correctly the results are great. I did my Morris and the years of grime and rubbish it removed sitting on top of the paint was astounding. Before applying any compound I would use a...

Ensure you have assembled the points correctly, if not it will short to earth and there will be no spark. If the coil is getting hot with the ignition switched on then it's normal, once the engine is running it will be fine.

Re: Brake pipe clamping

I have ended up replacing flexi pipes twice after using a clamp. I found the best way was to round off the end of a plastic paint brush and use it to block off the end of the brake line as you disconnect it from the cylinder.

Re: Brake lines-minimum bend radius?

After replacing my M/C I also struggled to get a firm pedal, just getting fluid to the rear cylinders was a pain due to air. This method worked for me, you will need a patient helper. Start bleeding at the front offside wheel then the front nearside, rear offside and then the rear nearside. With you...

It was locked for the reason that there were too many people posting comments about the price and condition of cars for sale. It was decided that people should view the cars and agree a price accordingly.
I remember some post getting into multiple pages in length.......

Re: Front brakes seizing after a short drive.

First check is that the master cylinder is adjusted correctly, check the manual for the correct setting.
I think it should be 3/4" free play at the pedal.

Re: A bit cheeky

Most of the dealers in England are charging silly money what happened to the cheap working mans car :-? Most dealers such as Charles Wares restoring cars have to make a profit to exist, they are not going to restore a car for the love of it, unlike the private owner...... The real question here is ...

Re: Front brake shoe steady springs.

Don't adjust anything until you get a good firm pedal, start bleeding at the front offside and go around anti clockwise first, the problem is air in the system. Once you start to get a firm pedal bleeding the brakes as per the manual will be sufficient. Do you have a helper? I find pumping the pedal...

Here is a good write up on why they fail, http://nonlintec.com/sprite/cap_failure/
It would appear that the main reasons for failure are manufacturers skimping on the internal components.

Re: Doris cuts out

As others have suggested you need to ensure you have a clean fuel supply, this means not fitting filters to cure the problem. You need to blow the fuel lines out and disconnect and remove the fuel tank and clean it out and then if faults are still present, eliminate them one by one. There is a way t...

Re: Indicators

Major work could mean welding, the flasher relay could have been affected.
Remove the connections to the relay and connect them all together then operate the indicators. If they operate as they should without flashing then it's the relay at fault.

Sounds like it has brought up some debris from the bottom of the tank, start with cleaning the filter in the fuel pump then check the float chamber for any debris.
