Re: Oddball engine. 1098 or 948?

The 948 engine has '950' cast into the block. It's located at the front on the tappet chest side. If it's there, you can't miss it.

Re: My new ride.

It is sloooow. The 1800 is gutless. Which is odd as, the valves and pistons are huge. The little carb and I presume the cam shaft are the limiting factors. It has a belt driven overhead camshaft and if the belt were to snap, none of the valves will touch the crown of the pistons. So, not a lot of li...

Re: My new ride.

Ha! Good plan. it passed it's MOT recently. Bit of welding was all. I have changed the engine (from a bedford CF) as the old one liked to throw oil all over the engine bay as well as drinking it The radiator sprang a leak, NOS radiator sorted that. And then by a stroke of luck I got NOS disc brakes....

Re: My new ride.

Yes, very true amgrave. I've heard that a lot of them rotted away within 5 years. i've no idea where this has been all it's life. Mine is one of the early FEs. Not very popular by all accounts. It is fitted with the 'slant 4' engine that was also fitted to the Bedford CF van. I purchased it on a whi...

Re: My new ride.

It's a Vauxhall Victor FE 1800. Although it had an MOT when I bought it, it has taken a long time to get it so that I can use it fairly regularly. Things just kept breaking every time i used it. And that was a long list of things to fix. I got very, very lucky with some NOS parts. I love driving it,...

Re: 1275 exhaust manifold questions.

Ah, well done phil. I did also fit that manifold to my Morris and I found that the 'off the shelf' downpipe conversion wasn't a brilliant fit but at the time I put that down to the gearbox I had fitted, maybe changing the angle.

Nearly all bikers do a sideways nod at each other. But (usually) NOT riders of Harly's or younger people on 125s. Them seems to be the rules.

My new ride.

[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1473794670_6453 [/frame] And yes, it has disc brakes, servo and wider wheels, bigger engine. Heated rear window. Boring, I know. Although, only a 4-speed box married to a 4.1\1 ratio axle. And it's almost impossible to buy any parts for it! Think how lucky ...

Re: 1275 exhaust manifold questions.

I may be wrong but I thought the 12g3538 was from a mini or metro 1 litre. It has 4 studs on the inlet for and a 38mm opening for a HIF38 carb. The Marina 1300 had 38mm opening But only 2 studs to fit a HS4. The later 1300 Ital/metro (A+ engine) had the twin exhaust outlet and a bigger 44mm opening ...

Re: Automatic box conversion

If you had a lot of spare time and inclination and a car transporter, you could use the brakes and axle to. Maybe the wheels. It would require a heck of a lot of time though. Talking of seized engines, (and I don't recommend this) I knew someone who had a very seized Marina 1300 engine. He poured di...

Re: Anyone know how to get a vin number?

I recently purchased a motorcycle that has been off the road for 20 years or so. Purchased without the V5. And as stated DVLA will not give you the V5 unless you also state the VIN number as well as the reg. Anyway, it turns out that the VIN on the frame does not match what they have on their record...

Re: Longitudinal Member Assembly repair

Fair comments above. I did a short leg repair on mine and as said there's quite a lot to it. If the eye bolt is too far gone then a new chassis leg is probably the way to go. Chances are that if the eye bolt section's gone then the rest of it is probably no good either. I did also have to repair the...

I would imagine this would only affect people trying to retro fit a split screen in newer vehicle. Probably aimed at VWs perhaps.

Re: Air filter for 1275/HS4

I fitted one of those to mine and fitted a K&N filter in it. However, you will need the aluminium plenum and x2 long retaining bolts to fit it. You'll need to ask the seller if it comes with them. They're not in the photo.

Re: 1275 marina engine

The 'Ital' 1300 had a viscous fan fitted. Hence, the longer threaded shaft. I'm not sure what year BL started using it on the Marina/Ital range though. I used the same water pump on my Minor (without the viscous, cos it wont fit within the gap of the rad) and had no problem.

I just thought I'd add to this thread. I purchased the 'Farecla G3' cutting agent and I would say it's absolutely top notch. My vauxhall is now red, rather than the pink drab it's been for the last 6 years. I have tried other products but found that they had little effect. I will also try the carnau...

Re: When did travellers do away with semaphores?

I have a 4 door 1960 and I welded up the semaphore holes due to fitting seat belts and needing a better anchorage point, and also to help prevent water ingress which, eats away into the lower box sections. Still miss them though. I also had the older type heater and there was a rectangular hole in t...

Re: Steering Rack Gaiters

I have a Marina box fitted to mine and it uses EP 90. However, it doesn't always engage 1st gear easily (It doesn't crunch, just wont select, even with a double de-clutch) and I was going to try Automatic transmission fluid. This is what I have heard is done (by some folk) when a similar problem occ...
