Re: Bargain tyres?
The tyres were given a thorough inspection and judged to be in excellent condition by our regular fitters. All fitted and balanced for £60. The ride and handling is much better than with the old tyres. I did notice when the wheels were off that the exhaust was very corroded so that will be replaced ...

Re: Bargain tyres?
That is a great deal. Date code is irrelevant - they should be judged on condition. The date codes are from 2018 as far as I can tell and the condition is fantastic. No cracking on any part of the tyres, not even a single stone in the treads. What did surprise me was when I took the spare wheel out...

Re: Bargain tyres?
Looks like they're normally £100-£120 each, so that's £500-600 worth of tyre you've got there. The tread pattern looks nice and I've not seen them available before, perhaps a new one? Wow! I only paid £100 for the five! Even with the cost of fitting it looks like I have netted a genuine bargain. Th...

Bargain tyres?
Hi all, I decided to replace Willum's tyres with better quality ones and managed to snap up a set of 5 as new Firestone F560s just 15 minutes down the road from me. Does anyone else have these tyres fitted? These still have the labels on them and were only on the car for 1 mile! I was wondering what...

Hi,
My old series 2 had red cloth door seals to match the carpet colour. My friend's green car had green carpets and matching green seals so I guess a colour match would be the best option.
Don't forget to order the fixing clips like I did!

Re: Steering wheels
Hi,
The standard Moggy wheel is 420mm or 16.5 inches in old money.
I would personally not fit a wheel smaller than 14 inches because of the extra effort needed to turn it when starting off or parking.

If penetrating oil will not allow the nut to be removed I would cut it off with a Dremel wheel and fit a new set of mirrors.

Re: Moggie engine removal-the easy way.
My gearbox support member had been welded in place and had to be ground off when the garage fitted my new clutch.
Looks like it would have been easier to take the engine out with the front panel removed rather than faff about with the cross member?

Just checked the prices of liners and the new PVC ones are actually cheaper than ESM!

They sell on Ebay for around the same price as the fibre board type.

I simply replaced my stained, distorted and torn liner with the new PVC type.

Re: Silver vs Cream Wheels
Our Trafalgar Blue saloon should have a grey pinstripe according to the specifications list.
He has Old English White wheels and grille and I'm seriously considering a pinstripe in the same colour. I think it would look better than silver grey.

Re: Simple over rider fitting.
I should perhaps have mentioned that I have limited sensitivity in my digits due to white finger syndrome and the sponge rubber holding the bolt securely made the fitting that much easier.
Your method is of course correct for most people.
Apologies for any confusion.

Simple over rider fitting.
Roll up a piece of sponge rubber and stuff it between the bolt head and over rider body.
This holds the coach bolt in place while you fit a nyloc nut.
Took me an age of upside down faffing with the bolt falling out every time I started to fit the nut before I found the obvious solution!

By the way does anyone have a picture of the over the top carpet? Just curious to see what it looks like.

Re: Hyperactive throttle.
Adjusted the jet jut upwards by a couple of flats and there is a noticeable improvement in the running. The idling speed has slowed but with the choke control fully in the engine struggles to keep going so I will be resetting the control cables and performing a full set up as per the manual. P.S. Wh...

Re: Carpet over gear lever
On a 1970 Minor, the carpet does indeed go over the top of the gaiter and retainer. The carpet set changed (different pattern and a different material) at around that time. Just noticed in this picture of the last Minor saloon to be built that they have the gaiter frame fitted over the carpet. FMT ...
