Re: engine numbers help please

Pressed steel backplate on a 948. Cast one on a 1098.
Stock 948 manifold is squarer that the 1098 one.

Restore or Buy ??

Just throwing this out there for suggestions.... I have an amount available to spend (don't want to say right now) and own a 1 owner 1960 Traveller that requires restoration. It needs wood, paint and interior. Mechanicals are all done and are fine (1275, 3.9 diff, 9" front brakes and recon box)...

It is a fume trap to prevent fuel vapour from being ignited by the distributor.

For sure 948 / 1098 dipsticks are different. Don't know about 803 ones though.....

Re: Rear axle oil filler-cap

You are looking for a plug the same as the drain plug in the bottom.. Early diffs were on the diff side, later axles on the back of the casing.

Re: No Pressure?

Excellent result.
Tip: Fix your valve rather than buying new - You don't get that level of quality anymore. They strip apart quite easily and you will find seals and collets which can be found on ebay to suit.

Re: Rear bumper straightening

I don't know how good your valance is but generally speaking they are not very strong (less so if rusty). With the chrome blade off you can fairly easily straighten it yourself with minimal effort.

Re: Regulator box ticking

I'm guessing the points are closing when they shouldn't. As Roy asked, do the lights dim in tune with the ticks? The contacts are adjustable so you could try adjusting until they just close with no output from dynamo (engine off).....

Unless I have something not-standard attached.

I can take a picture if this is a complete mystery to everyone

Cheers!
I've not seen a slotted one, but anything is possible....

Re: Rear axle oil filler-cap

You can buy a special "key" for the job but I always use a 3/8" ratchet drive (no socket attached).
